Redeeming RCCL Visa Reward Points

Such a poorly designed concept. I called the redemption dept. to redeem points before our cruise to Havana in May of 2017. They never showed up on board ship and they said they had no record of me calling to redeem. Bad enough. Now we are sailing in May of 2018 to Western Caribbean and I decide to be proactive, redeem they way ahead and print off the receipt from the confirmation email. A week goes by and the points don't show up in the cruise planner. One call informs me to wait 24-48 hours for them to show up. A second call to the redemption dept. says there are only two admins who enter the redemption points by hand. They do this based on sail date and it could take up until May 13 to post them. At that point I should call again (per the agent) if they are not showing in cruise planner. My last question was, what about the current sale on drink packages, etc. that I wanted to take advantage of with the obc. She said, using the points in advance of the cruise is 'fairly new and we don't have all the bugs worked out." I wonder if other cruise lines make it this difficult.

It has been their practice for years to post the OBC from Visa points in order of sailing date. This had not been a problem until they recently started allowing OBC to be used pre-cruise.

You could buy the drink packages with a credit card while they are on sale and if the price is the same when the OBC gets posted, you could cancel and re-order using the OBC.
