How is the food at the Cirque Dreams Show?

Recommended Posts

So we are going to the Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy show on the Breakaway, which includes the meal. For those of you who have had it, how is it? Should we have a light dinner beforehand just in case? I have seen the menu (posted by another member on another thread), but I am curious as to if it was good or not.

Thanks in advance!

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Personally I thought the food was fine (though many people state they don't think it is all that good..average at best) The cirque show itself is excellent! Actually eating during the show almost is a distraction while trying to watch it. You could always go to the show and if you didn't find the food to be to your liking...go somewhere else after to eat.

Six of us on the BA last month booked the Jungle Fantasy Dinner Show (1st. one on Day One with 25% discount) and we thought it was fine, better than average as served in the MDR with a lower grade-cut. This wasn't your prime filet mignon or tenderloin cut, but pretty close for mine as I asked for medium - moist & tender - whereas our BIL asked for medium/well and he felt it was tough/over-cooked, and you get 4 medium-large shrimps (not your jumbo prawn, of course).

If you don't eat red meat or beef, they will just bring you the same platter without the beef, NO extra shrimps added - and you will probably be hungry afterward - just head for O'Sheehans or the Garden Cafe (as the buffet is still open after the first show, lasting about 90 minutes) We had the coffee & dessert and they're fine - no complaints.

The show itself is worth the surcharge so consider the meal a bonus - you cannot get something similar in Vegas these days for this price: Sin City's better buffert or set dinner will easily cost you $60+ p/p at many upscale Strip casino.

Go enjoy the show with an open mind and there's always free Room Service (until midnight to 5 AM, with a surcharge) - didn't try out the $5 16" pizza delivery either.

Jenn, I'm stalking you! :D I think at worst, the steak and shrimp at the show are about average. I don't know if you purchased the UDP or not, but if not, I would suggest going to O'Sheehan's before the show as Sunday is supposed to be prime rib night.

Ali, we meet again!

We did purchase the UDP :)

I didn't know O'Sheehan's was included, I'll have to check that out! We're so booked - I wish you could eat at the specialty restaurants during the day too! I want to go everywhere and back again if it's amazing!!

That's a good point about eating during the show.

Are there any places that are open 24 hours or at least until the early morning? I liked how on the Dawn the Blue Lagoon was 24/7, so you always had some place to eat.

That's too bad about the beef thing - I do eat red meat but I feel sorry for those who don't!

And I want to try the $5 pizzas too!! We tried the last cruise but something happened - they forgot the put the order in - so we were literally waiting like an hour and a half for it... so we finally just cancelled it. It wasn't fun.

I was on the March 30 sailing - the Cirque show was fabulous. The Cirque dinner was not. My filet was well done, the shrimp was OK.

By the $40 ticket, have dinner before or after the show and watch every minute of the Cirque!

Hi Jennifer,

O'Sheehans is 24 hours. I think this is probably still close to what the current menu is:

No problem..You're Welcome If you liked the Blue Lagoon you will really really like O'Sheehans! ;)

Yes from what I see the menu is basically the same. This is super exciting. I'm sure we would have discovered this place eventually, but knowing ahead of time makes me giddy. :D

Jennifer & others - keep in mind that when the Jungle Fantasy Show is offered twice for that evening, the first one is usually 5:15 PM and the late show at 8:30 PM - lasting about 90 minutes. Mid-week, it's offered only once - 6:30 or 7 PM.

See here - Week At A Glance (scanned in, rotate 90 degree to read it) https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B99B_U7lpMXRLW5fTmZXeFJZUkk/edit?pli=1

If you book the 1st. show, you will be finished & out by 7 PM and all of the MDR are open for "Freestyle Dining" as walk-ins plus the Garden Cafe for quick buffet if you are still hungry. We ate so much during that week, fortunately, plenty of Salmon variety for me, so the scale didn't tip over by 7 lbs at all. But, we did stop in the buffet for hot soup & finger food afterward.

O'Sheehan's is the equivalent of the Dawn's Blue Lagoon (ooooh, we missed their "Wonton" soup & Hot Wings, the best ones among all NCL ships) with at least twice the amount of seating as a mega-ship, it's open 24 hours & FREE. The Chicken Pot Pie is good comfort food & the Country Style Soup is heart warming - my favorite, the newest on the BA Menu is the Salmon Burger, loved it ! Day 1 is supposed to be Prime Rib Specials at O'Sheehans and Day 2 is Lobster Tails & Asian Food in the Buffet (not served in the MDR) - everything subject to changes, of course.

Nobody, nobody goes HUNGRY on NCL ships, period :D . Late night, supposingly - the Casino, MIDship, Deck 7 has some finger food & snacks, too, starboard side near the atrium lobby/staircases - check it out if you can & share with us, it's a dedicated area offside and hard to miss.

Enjoy Bermuda - one of our favorite port.

We are doing the later show!

But yes, there is too much food! I am worried that we won't have enough time to try everything, lol! I'm so glad O'Sheehans is 24/7, I am super pumped about that now!

We all enjoyed our meal. I can't eat shellfish or seafood so I received a double portion of the beef tenderloin. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. Actually thought it was on par with LeBistro and I am a very big fan of LeBistro and their filet.

We had a Cirque Dreams dinner on the Epic back in May 2011, and I found the food to be quite average (nothing special), I enjoyed the show though. But what I did NOT enjoy (and I am actually surprised that I have not seen much negative comments about that) is that (at least back in 2011) very much of the show was "up in the air" (acrobats and trapeze). The show itself was great - but I am pretty sure I would have enjoyed it much more if I didn't have to choose between having my neck back watching everything above us (we had the expensive seats closest to the performers) or eating my dinner while it was still warm. It was almost impossible to do both at the same time because we were sitting so close to the "action" - but I tried.....

But this was when the show on the Epic was quite new, so they might have done some improvements on that since then.

We did not enjoy the food at the show. Since you may enjoy it, maybe instead of eating before the show, plan on picking on what you like at the show and eating later in the evening if you find you did not like the food or there was not enough of what you did like.

Now that I know that O'Sheehan's is open 24 hours, this is what we'll do!

The first day of sailing is kind of hectic anyway - you end up going to eat once or twice within the first 6 hours of being onboard. :P

I realized before we were served that the waitress did not ask how we wanted it cooked. Mine was a little bit more rare than I would have liked, but very good.

We had an 8:30PM show, so ate in O Sheehans during the late afternoon. The meatloaf and chicken pot pie are delicious.

The show was great. We got there a half hour early and got seats at the front of the table.
