ms Rotterdam question

I received in the mail today a 4-page brochure from HAL about the 83-day "Africa Explorer" cruise on Rotterdam departing Sept 28. What struck me -- apart from the itinerary which looks amazing -- is that Rotterdam is described as an "elegant mid-size ship with just 1,620 guests". :confused: I was under the impression that Rotterdam is a bit smaller than Zaandam/Volendam and carries around 1,400 passengers. Did I miss something...did Rotterdam undergo a expansion like Prinsendam and Veendam to add more passenger cabins? Or was there an editing error in the sales promotion?

Yes - a few years ago she also had more cabins added like the Veendam. And had the aft pool removed.

The number of passengers on her is a little over 1600.

But she is still considered an "R" class ship.

Thank you -- I never knew that. I was thinking she was still roughly the same size as Amsterdam.

Thankfully after they made messes of the Veendam and Rotterdam, they left the Amsterdam alone.

After spending 39 days cruising on Rotterdam recently, I want you to know that the Retreat is well used and no one seems to mind that there is no aft pool.
