Here are my "stats":

Oct BK(7 day)-13900 earned points plus the 5000 extra for 18900

-$6800 theoretical

-was comped a mini for feb Gem cruise

Feb Gem(9 day)-13400 earned plus the 10000 extra

-$6400 theoretical

-was comped a mini for next Gem cruise(9 day that turned into 10)

I thought that my theorotical would be lower for the Gem, but it was not by much.

I play tables. Mostly BJ and Craps. Usually 3-4 hours daily ave with a $300 ave bet.

On land these numbers get me a suite, dinner, show, etc comps whenever I want. I can see not giving much to someone after just one cruise, but I earned big numbers on 2 cruises in a 4 month time frame. I really thought this next cruise would get me a suite. In 2005-2007 I was comped nothing but the best suites(exluding the Garden villa) for identical play. Who knows.

It seems that you get different answers when you speak with different folks at CAS. Last march I was on the Epic and made Golden. I was immediately given a new card and told from the hostess on the Epic that my golden level would carry over for 12 months. I am heading out on Breakaway in August and was told that I would Only be Hot because my level expired on march 31? certainly doesn't make sense. Even the land based casinos carry over for a year. Oh well. I will see what happens in August

Things have changed a lot since 2005-2007 - I used to be comped only high level suites for my play, but CAS got smart lol. Plus, there was the "fresh meat" thing I said above to Geri, they know now they have me hooked. Land casinos have competition to deal with, ship casinos always offer much, much less. It's not as good as it used to be, but still a pretty good deal for those of us that would cruise anyway. I don't play for comps, I'd play anyway, so what they give me is nice icing on the cake - it's like getting a decent percentage cash back from my play to use toward my next sailing that I would have taken anyway..

Your theoretical makes sense for playing table games with relatively low house edge. Looks like you are getting roughly 48% of your points in theoretical losses (and hopefully that's higher than you actual losses). Slots are more like 70% because of the much higher house edge. You'd have a long way to go to top the $1200 theoretical per day required to move up to comped suites. If you're getting at least 20-30% of your losses back as the discount off your next sailing, you're doing pretty good!

On April 1, 2014 any points earned prior to April 1, 2013 expired. If you have not earned 15,001+ points since April 1, 2013, you will drop to whatever level you have earned since then (including your March 2014 sailing). Works the same as most land-based casinos, except CAS gives you more time to earn the points. March 2014 was actually in the last year of earning, and they are allowing you to build on those points for the current year... You only lost the points you earned in March 2013 and prior.

So my wife read all this and told me to try calling again. If they could do something for us for the October gem cruise, we would have more leeway to spend more on this one (since final payment for oct cruise is due beginning of August). I laughed and said you just want to shop and gamble more, but did cold call CAS

Our October cruise in a mini on the gem was booked at $3300 all told. The CAS person I spoke to said something to the effect of "wow you guys gamble a lot and and have never called for any casino rates. Hang on a second"

Came back a minute later, said they comped up inside rooms and we would just need to pay an upgrade fee. I admitted to her that we were actually already booked but I would cancel with ncl and rebook thru CAS. She laughed and said I can make the adjustments. Will email you your new documents in a minute.

2 minutes later. Same room we were in...total cost for the 2 of us, $1598. Basically gave us a $1600 comp discount.

Thank you robin (and everyone) for the advice. Clearly will be using CAS for all future bookings

Plus you will have your drink cards and dinner for two with a bottle of wine!:)

Enjoy your October cruise and this one just around the corner.

For the CAS programs for every dollar you spend on slots and games you earn a point? If not how do you earn the points? Are the cards tied to any land based casinos?

It is for every $5 played you earn 1 point on the slot machines. I cannot say about the tables it works differently.

The CAS cards are not tied to any land based casinos. Some land based casinos do reward with free cruises via CAS but your play on a ship still has no meaning to your land based rewards programs.

Just a small clarification. Video poker does NOT count as a slot machine. You get half as many points for video poker, which is what we play mostly. $10 played equals 1 point. I am generally between 15,000 and 20,000 points on a seven day cruise. For that, I generally get comped a mini suite - sometimes an aft mini suite - once in a great while they offer me a penthouse on less popular itineraries. On my last 9 day Gem cruise, we won a couple of jackpots and kept recycling the money so I ended up with 36,000 points (yeah, I know, we are sickies). But even for that, we were comped only an aft penthouse suite on the Dawn for a western carib. I took a forward penthouse for a very small upgrade price, but am thinking about upgrading to a two balcony owner suite. Havent decided yet. (But, to be fair, they also comped off close to 1000. in spa, drink, photo and excursion charges from my final bill on the Gem, so I am definitely not complaining.
