caribill Posted May 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) You need to post this question on your roll call. If not already a part of the roll call, locate it using the NEW! Find Your PRINCESS Roll Call link at the top of this page. You can also look in the Personalizer to see any e-mails that were sent to you (they may have gone to spam). (See "pre-cruise e-mails" on the "Travel Summary" page.) Edited May 13, 2014 by caribill

Hoosier-Cruiser Posted May 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) Hello Everyone! Has anyone received the usual pre-cruise info. notice, stating who the captain and other officers, naturalist, etc., will be on the Island in Alaska? Thanks for any replies? :) Joanne in Arizona I have found that most of my pre-cruise emails go to my spam folder. I usually check my personalizer once a week as the cruise nears to make sure I didn't miss one (or two). My parents will be on board with you (they are onboard now doing the repositioning cruise). I hope you have a great time. Edited May 13, 2014 by Hoosier-Cruiser
JosieJeangirl Posted May 13, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) Thanks to everyone for your replies. My husband will be the naturalist onboard the Island Princess for the entire summer, until early October, but we never receive any pre-cruise announcements. We do know the captain but wanted to read other "news" items. Since my DH works for Princess, we do not have access to the regular passenger personalized page. Thanks again……. I may even get to meet some of you when I join him in July. :) Joanne in Arizona Edited May 13, 2014 by JosieJeangirl
Colo Cruiser Posted May 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2014 We have cruised Alaska many times on Princess but I have not seen a naturalist listed in any of those pre cruise emails. :)
MGnut Posted May 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2014 Hello Everyone! Has anyone received the usual pre-cruise info. notice, stating who the captain and other officers, naturalist, etc., will be on the Island in Alaska? Thanks for any replies? :) Joanne in Arizona I have received 3 emails for my May 28th cruise. I don't see any Island cruise to Alaska on the 16th. Is it starting in San Francisco or somewhere else? (i.e. not from Vancouver?) Are you and Jules going to be on the 28th sailing? I hope so - I really like his lectures. :) Howard

AZ Ocean Lover Posted May 13, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2014 Jules was our naturalist on our Alaska cruise as well. He was also on an excursion we took through an eagle preserve. We remember him because he lives in Sun City West and we are in Cave Creek. It will be nice to see him again.

khoffman Posted May 15, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 15, 2014 Captain Mariano Manfuso Captain Mariano Manfuso was born in Meta (often known as Meta di Sorrento), a small town in the Sorrentine Peninsula. After graduating from the Nautical Institute "Nino Bixio", he started his career as Cadet with Sitmar Cruises on board the "Fairstar" in 1975 and then served for approximately two years in the Italian Navy. After completing his service in the Navy, he went back to the merchant navy where he spent approximately eight years on various cargo vessels before returning to cruise lines in 1988 as a 2nd Officer. His first senior appointment was as Staff Captain on Star Princess in 1997. In 2002, he was promoted to Captain and he has been in command of Dawn, Regal, Tahitian, Grand, Coral, Island and Caribbean Princess. Currently, Captain Manfuso resides in Borgo San Lorenzo, Tuscany, close to Florence, with his wife Lilly and their children Annarita and Alessandro. When on leave, he enjoys spending time with his family. Computers, home videos and woodworking are also favorite pastimes. Kirk

khoffman Posted May 15, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 15, 2014 Rue Pereira Rui Pereira was born and raised in Viseu, Portugal, a famous wine region about 50 miles from historic Porto. Its close proximity to the country's beautiful national parks and inviting geothermal waters makes Viseu a popular destination for travelers, perhaps enticing Rui into the hospitality industry. Rui began gaining career experience in some of Lisbon's best restaurants, including the Conves, which was owned by a famous Portuguese theatre manager. He later had the opportunity to work as a waiter in the five-star Hotel Do Mar in Sesimbra, a charming fishing village just 20 miles south of Lisbon. Seeking a change of scenery, Rui eventually joined Princess Cruises, where he started as a Junior Waiter and worked his way up through the ranks to become Maitre d'Hotel in 1995. Earning this new title onboard the Island Princess was, in Rui's words, "the ultimate prize." Rui had the good fortune of working at the christening of Crown Princess in New York during a Gala Dinner Party in which both Monaco's Royal Family and Sophia Loren were in attendance. He considers this experience the highlight of his career thus far.
JosieJeangirl Posted May 15, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted May 15, 2014 Thank you Howard. I'll contact you. Kirk, thanks for all of your info. Captain Manfusco did our wedding vow renewal years back…..we also have been told that Captain Hawkes will be arriving on board during the summer. He is a phenomenal captain. They do not usually list their naturalists anymore, since they move around so frequently. We were curious about other staff. Once again….. a big "thank You" for everyone's replies! Joanne ( and Jules ) in Arizona. Jules boards the Island tomorrow!
