Shawski Posted May 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2014 I'm not trying to start another long thread about the dress code. I just finished reading a lot of those and I have to say we don't need another one! I have what I hope is a simple question. On casual nights is a nice polo shirt and pair of khakis acceptable for men? Thanks.

Rare RachelG Posted May 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2014 My husband would wear khakis and a dress shirt--he thinks polo shirts make him look fat. But yes, that is fine.

Mr Luxury Posted May 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2014 Why not? It seems to be the uniform of off-duty America! An Englishman would wear a properly tailored shirt preferably with long sleeves at the dinner table.

Mr Luxury Posted May 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) You don't mention the pants. Are they optional for an Englishman? Pants are things that gentlemen wear underneath their trousers. Although looking at some guests there is a wide interpretation of casual. Each to their own,I don't care what others wear as long as I am having a good time and feel comfortable. Shawski Posted May 27, 2014 Author #20 Share Posted May 27, 2014 Oh my gosh! When I went back to see if I had any responses to my original question and I saw how many responses I had I thought I had generated another one of these awful dress code threads! I was so happy to see the humorous responses along with good advice. Back to packing the suitcases Thanks all.

I have always yearned for more. If you wear a bow tie and nothing else I guess that means that there will always be two dickies on show at any one time at dinner? I just hope that they both do you proud. :)
