scdreamer Posted May 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2014 We have sailed only once before with Celebrity - Alaska - and were very impressed with the lectures that we attended. The speakers were very informative and interesting. Will there be lecturers on a Celebrity Baltic cruise?
grayjay Posted May 28, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Lecturers ( mostly very good ones) have been on every Celebrity cruise we have been on so far. As the Baltic cruises are very port intensive there won't be that much time for attending lectures, though. But I'm sure there will be some on the sea days. sunshine nana Posted May 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2014 We found a DVD on line (it was from a Princess cruise) that had great pictures and explanations. We watched it several times before we went and it really helped.
Iamthesea Posted May 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Great Russian lecture onboard the Constellation a couple of days ago. :)
meatloafsfan Posted May 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2014 According to recent dailies posted for the Celebrity Summit to Bermuda, there are no lecturers listed. It may be another change that's coming to all ships (or a test on the Summit) [And I checked previous years dailies for the Bermuda cruises so it's not a "because you're in Bermuda for 3 days" thing]
The_Big_M Posted May 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2014 The Constellation lecturer we had last year was a product specialist, who seemed to work for the shops. He was knowledgeable, but the talks seemed geared to promote Celebrity and the shops as well.
scdreamer Posted May 29, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted May 29, 2014 We really enjoyed the lectures given by the naturalist on our Alaska cruise. I was hoping there might be a historian lecturing on our upcoming Baltic cruise. Not really interested in anyone who might be a shill for the shops, though. shoreham01 Posted May 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 29, 2014 I think we must have been unlucky as we have not been to any lectures that have in our opinion been any good. There was a Faberge one which we thought would be very interesting as we were on our way to St Petersburg. It was just the shop selling Faberge on the ship so really just a big publicity stint for them. The port lectures were terrible. I thought of volunteering my services as all they did was read with no enthusiasm from the port information leaflet given to everyone. Another complete waste of time. The naturalist who kept reminding us that he had worked for, I think it was the Discovery channel or the Animal Channel, just gave us lots of information about animals we were not going to see on a trip up to Iceland. He spent ages telling us about polar bears which have only been seen in Iceland a couple of times over the years on the far eastern shoreline. It was no-where near we were going, according to our tour guide, in fact he had never heard of one coming ashore in his lifetime, and he was not a youngster. We are hoping for better this time. lawblond7 Posted May 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 30, 2014 We were on the constellation last summer Amsterdam (RT) to the Baltics and i found some of the lectures very good and some disappointing. I found the one of the history of Russia not very good as I think the facts were a bit screwed up - history buff - but on the other hand my oldest son - then 20 was fascinated by most of them Sharon
