Just wonderin,"WHY" I haven't seen this thread??..

It seems many are willin to be critical of those who can and will pay extra for a suite.

Are some suite people snobs? YES, but not ALL.

Because I can afford two cars, do I criticize those that ride the bus?.. NO!!!

Already lookin forward to Our next suite, no apologies!!!

It's only money!!

Well ... while an inside is not my cup of tea, it is the perfect match for many people. If someone has sleep issues, the total darkness of an inside can be a blessing. The money saved by going inside can allow many folks to sail more often than they could if they spent double, triple or more on a higher category cabin. If you fill your sea days with swimming, sunning, and other shipboard activities, using your cabin mainly as a place to clean up, change clothes, and sleep, then why spend more just to be able to see outside?

No matter what level of cabin we choose, everybody arrives at the pier at the same time, and eats food prepared from the same ingredients in the same kitchen.

So, if I ever want to book and pay for a full suite (never done it yet) then I'll do so without apology. If my circumstances don't allow that, I'll gladly back up and select a lower category cabin so I can still enjoy the cruise experience. Without apology here either. Neither choice makes me a greater or lesser person, and I seriously doubt that there are many (if any) on this board who feel otherwise.

As this will be our first cruise, we booked a suite. I didn't want to get onboard and said "I coulda, woulda, shoulda." Again, living in Florida we will most likely never get back to Alaska.

I've never noticed any bad words about suite pax from those of us in steerage. icon_wink.gif My own opinion is: You earned the money, you spend it as you wish. If you can afford to be in a suite, all the better; I'm happy just to be on the ship in a lower-deck inside share and bear no envy toward those who aren't. I know the suite pax have perks we don't, but they are also paying more; some day, I might be in that position.

Mom always said she'd sleep in a lifeboat if that's what it took to be on board the old Rotterdam.

I found it was a complete waste of my money having a view of the outside, or any extra space - never used any of it. icon_smile.gif

But anyone who wants an outside or a balcony or a suite - well, it's your money and you're welcome to those rooms!

I don't think that anyone is critical of everyone that books a suite. If you can afford it, and are comfortable paying it, then great. I could afford it, but I'm not comfortable with the price so I don't book a suite. That's fine too. I'm not sure if I'll ever book a suite, but sometime I would like to book a balcony.

Roadguy, the only way you'd have to apologize for a suite is if you purchased the last one that would have otherwise been my free upgrade. icon_biggrin.gif

If you book the lowest inside you can get there is a greater chance for a free upgrade to get you out of the dark hole while if you book the highest suite you can get you are stuck there.

It's pretty much a no brainer. The inside rooms give a smoother ride, are quieter, and save you so much money you can really enjoy the cruise to it's fullest. More fancy drinks with the little umbrellas in them, more money for photos, excursions, fancy coffee, wine and alternate dining.

More money for casino and bingo which could increase your odds of winning even more money.

Talk about savings for staying inside!

My inside room is adequate. By that I mean I'll sleep there, change there, shower there, etc. I really don't have enticement to stay there any more than that. If I'm going to the Caribbean, I don't want the extra space and amenities that would make me stay in the room longer. I want to be out and about.

Of course, I wouldn't mind spending time on the balcony, and free laundry would be nice, and priority tendering would be very desirable. OK OK, never mind the previous statement. I'd like a suite.icon_wink.gif

Roadguy, you have a great attitude. "It's only money!!!!" Just, like I told Mrs. Max when I booked this cruise, "We are spending the kid's inheritance."

I also told the kids before they left home on their own. "We are not a bank, we don't co-sign and we won't post bail."

We had a guy on the board one day, rrrreally angry (two-word phrase, second word "off") at HAL. Bitter over how they treated him.

He had booked the cheapest cabin on the ship, expecting an upgrade. Arrived at the pier, found he would be sleeping in the cheapest cabin on the ship. Boy, was he [bad phrase]!

Someone posted, "You cheapskate! You booked the cheapest cabin and that's what you got. HAL didn't cheat you; they gave you exactly what you wanted and what you paid for. Now shut up. Upgrades are a favor and nobody knows where the Upgrade Fairy will sprinkle its Magic Dust."

I always got an upgrade, until the last cruise. Friends asked, "Aren't you disappointed?" I said, "I booked cheap and got cheap. Not at all. An upgrade would have been nice, but I got exactly what I paid for and can afford. I'm happy to be on the ship; it's this cabin or nothing."

I booked a specific inside room and many people would wonder why I didn't go for a guarantee. After all, I may wind up with an oceanview, or maybe a balcony. But I selected the room location (center of the ship). I could wind up with a better room, but I could also wind up in an undesirable location, in spite of being upgraded. So I'd prefer to pay for the room I want, and not hope for an upgrade.

After all, the room I want is the one that allows me to lay by the pool, eat in the dining room, watch the shows and visit the ports.

I've been in outside and inside cabins.

While I can afford outside cabin and suite with a little amount of the time I spend in my cabin I prefer to spend more $$$ for tours and shopping. Hey I don't live in inside cabin at home so I can take "inside" for a week or two.

I agree with Roadguy. I never anticipate an upgrade. I like to know where I'm going to be before I go. I book a suite, because I can afford it and that is where I am most comfortable. I don't care where anyone else is living while they are on the ship. Frankly it is irrelevant. I assume (I know that can be dangerous) that they have booked the accomodations that suit them and make the most sense to them. We are all on the same journey together, enjoying the same ship, food, entertainment and ports. We can all enjoy each other's company and perhaps make some good friends.

Thanks for listening

Roadguy: You are offered the free upgrade but you don't have to take it. If you don't like the location from the one you selected don't take it. They don't force you to leave.

I was asked nicely to leave a desireable room for 4 as I only had 3 in it. HAL kept making me deals to move to a less desireable location but same category room. I wouldn't go even after some credit kick backs. I book early an inside center for the ride but if I get a 9 category upgrade for Free at the back of the ship I'm taking it!

F5Loar,

I think what Roadguy is saying is that he wants the suite, and doesn't mind paying for the suite. He doesn't want to book something less (say category A) and then hope for the suite. He'd rather just pay for it and not have to get lucky.

If you're fine with the room you selected and then get an upgrade to a better room, great. But don't select a room at a lower category than you want and hope for an upgrade.

Orocrone was right- last summer I had a huge suite- over 700sq ft and i did feel like I was missing out on the shipboard experience as we were spending so much time on our cabin. I do think that cruising is a group/social experince as its best.

An SS is plenty of space for me, althoug in March I had an inside cabin with my two girls and we had a ball even though it was very crowded and I kept bruising my shin on the fold out chair. MUCH better are the bunks that dont eat up floor space !
