soulpony Posted June 14, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Booked on the Maasdam for Oct 30 and was wondering about laundry service. Are machines available for pax? Thanks for any info. Soulpony
FlorenceItaly Posted June 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Yes, machines are available for passengers. They are on various decks. I leave Friday for my Saturday cruise(Maasdam), and am on the Main Deck close to the laundromat. I can let you know more after I return. sail7seas Posted June 14, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2004 There are laundry rooms on several decks, including Veranda Deck. Washers and dryers and iron w/ ironing board. Very convenient. <img src=http://domania.us/DaveEdwards/HALlogo.gif>
wwinfl91 Posted June 14, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Be sure to bring quarters as the machines both washers and dryers require quarters. I think it was $2 for the washer and $1 for the dryer. Supposingly there is soap that gets added to the washer if you push a button but there sure didn't seem to be many suds. The other "problem" is the washers took up to an hour to go through a full cycle. The dryers took about 1/2 hour so be prepared to spent some time there when you go. One last issue is that there seemed to be only one chair in the laundry so it is first come first sit. Have a great next cruise. FlorenceItaly Posted June 14, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2004 an hour for a full cycle...thank you for bringing this to my attention....I don't think I'll use the self laundry unless I am desperate. I am happy to send the laundry out, just don't want to send my delicates out . KAN Posted June 14, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Hi, I have never had the washer take more than 30 minutes that I can remember, so I wonder if there could have been a malfunction. Also, I personally feel no need to sit in the room with my laundry, however, I am always curteous and make sure I am back in the laundry room at the end of the cycle (30 minutes for wash and 45 minutes for dry). In the interim, I will happily sit out on my balcony (or in my stateroom, on the prominade deck etc) read the paper and relax. I actually kind of like laundry day. Yes, I know it's a "chore", but it can also be an excuse to sit back and relax for a few minutes (can you tell I'm a type A personality). When I suggested to my mom on her first cruise not to overpack because she would actually find doing laundry an excuse to take a break from "doing it all", she looked at me funny. But, after 5 days on a cruise ship of trying to fit in every activity, seeing all the ports etc...funny enough, she was ready to relax in her stateroom and do a little laundry, which she really did not need to do because she brough enough clothes for the both of us for 7 days (sorry mom). :-) That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-) Happy Travels Everyone. Only a few more weeks till the QM2. I am doing the document dance as we speak!!!!!! :-) KAN Nieuw Amsterdam - Nov '99 Ryndam - Nov '00 Veendam - Nov '01 Ryndam - Aug '02 Amsterdam - Nov '02 Maasdam - Dec '02 Maasdam - Jan '03 Volendam - Nov '03 Zaandam - Feb '04 Queen Mary 2 - July '04 Veendam - November '
wwinfl91 Posted June 14, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 14, 2004 I know we were really surprised at how long the washers were taking but we used two different ones and watched others using the other two and all of them on that deck seemed to take that long. I have never seen washers that ran longer than the dryers but on the Maasdam they did. We were doing the laundry one deck below our deck on the Verannah deck. When we started our first load the lady in front of us warned us that the washers took forever. Anyway hopefully the washers on your ship will be faster than ours were. Have a great next cruise. FlorenceItaly Posted June 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 14, 2004 wwinfl91 - I'll be on the Maasdam, so this information is very valuable to me since you were on the same ship. Thanks again!
