St Kitts Mariott or Carambola and how to book

Recommended Posts

We saw no excursions of interest on St Kitt's offered by RC. Basically want just a beach to relax. Have heard that Marriott and carambola Beach Club offer day passes. Yes, I did check the St Kitt's thread here under destinations. Carambola did not answer my email requesting information and many on that thread had the same experience. Do I really want to go somewhere that will not respond to an email requesting information about their site? Went to Marriott's St Kitt's site and there is nothing there about day passes and no information about how to find out. I actually read somewhere that there are no day passes. Any information would really help. Not sailing on Jewel until Nov 8 but I like to have my ducks in order .

For Carambola, there are no day passes. This is the email address I used and it did take them a few days to email me back. If there are 2 or more ships in port when your there, you definitely need to email them to reserve your chairs and an umbrella, cost is $10 each and you pay the day you arrive.

We enjoyed our day very much at Carambola this past March and can't wait to go back.

Found this on Cruise Critic for you for the Marriott St. Kitts

http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=1100

St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino

What You Get for Your Money: Conveniently, this resort offers with-room and without-room options. If you'd like daytime use of accommodations, the cost is $125 per party (the more of you there are, the lower the price per individual). Without a room, the cost is $35 per person. Either way, pass holders are entitled to use of the resort's pool, spa and restaurant. Meals, drinks and spa treatments cost extra, but pass holders get a 15 percent discount at the spa, 10 percent at the restaurant and 10 free tokens for the casino (for the over-18's, of course.)

How to Get There: From port, this resort is just 15 minutes by taxi.

For More Info: Visit St. Kitts Marriott's Web site or call 869-466-1200.

Thank you! I sent an email to the carambola address . I did not know that it was just chairs and umbrellas which is fine with me. Can you eat and drink at their retaurant?

The Marriott site is the one that I pulled up and could find nothing on the site itself about the passes therefore no way to get them. I guess I will just have to call Thanks for the pricing. But without anywhere to sign up, it is pretty hard to book it LOL! Not too guest friendly on the part of Marriott

Any hotel will allow you to buy food and drink from them! No worries about that! Have you googled St. Kitts to see if there are public beaches with food/drink/rentals? You may be able to avoid paying a hotel for the use of their facilities! Research is key !!!

Carambola is located on South Friars Beach, 15 mins. from the port, beach and views are beautiful here. Carambola is a bit upscale, very tranquil, with a beach bar and restaurant. Food quality, drinks and service was very good, a bit pricey.

Carambola is fairly new, they have shower facilities, daybeds, kayaks and gaining popularity with cruisers and tourist alike. Beach is clean, with soft white sand, no seaweed, water is calm, not rocky so no water shoes are needed. Other beaches in St. Kitts (Cockleshell and South Frigate Bay) are rocky and you need water shoes to go into the water.

You can take a walk down to the other end of the beach and you'll pass a few Tiki huts and a place at the end of the beach called Shipwreck Bar and Grill. This is good for an alternative lower cost if your on a tight budget and also has good food. Beach is small and narrow at Shipwreck and the sand is partially black and can be very hot. Their lounge chairs are old and they have thatched umbrellas. That beach was also very crowded when we took our walk. Shipwreck is also very popular with tourists and cruisers.

Have also taken tours by Thenford Grey and they are highly recommended on TripAdvisor. They are at thenfordgrey dot com

Plenty of taxis are the port to take you to any beach or just sightseeing. You can ask the same driver for a return pick up back to the ship where ever you decide to go. There were plenty of taxi drivers in the lobby of Carambola for your return to the ship.

You just can't walk into a resort and use their facilities and not pay any money. Yes there are public beaches but if you are not a guest and don't have a day pass, the OP would not be able to use the pool at the Marriott if they decide to go there and whatever else comes with a day pass.

We go to the Marriott every time we are in St. Kitts. It's a beautiful property. You do not need reservations. Just go to the front desk when you get there. The price is $35 pp. Usually we spend the morning on the beach. They have wonderful cabanas there. About lunchtime, we head up to the restaurant by the pool. Good idea to get up there early.....between 11:30 and 12:00. we eat lunch there, then spend the rest of the day at the pool. You will need a credit card to pay for lunch. We have been here many. many times.....always a great, relaxing day.

We spent the day at the Marriott St Kitts on our last cruise in January. We did not have to make a reservation ahead of time, we called the morning we arrived and they said we could just come on over. We paid at the front desk and that was it. We had a wonderful day there. The beach is very nice was not crowded at all. We spent most of our time at the beautiful pool area, great drinks! If you are looking for just a very relaxing day this is the place. They do not provide towels, so be sure to bring your own.

Thank you all so very much and jane the pictures are just lovely and now I know where we will be going. I feel so much better about this. I like to have everything planned out and arranged as far as excursions and this was the wild card. So we will just go to the marriott and make arrangements at the front desk

We golfed at the St Kitt's Marriott resort and after walked the property and sat at the beach for a little bit. Absolute beautiful resort and beach worth the taxi ride. We were there in September and would go back.

The water is a bit rough at Marriott. Loved, loved, LOVED the beach at Carambola. Nothing like the brown sugary sand that turns black as you walk towards the Shipwreck bar/restaurant. At Shipwreck, you can get a huge plate of food for around $10.

I am more excited than ever now that I have all of your input. We are two women traveling alone so we want to be careful when we embark on the different islands from Jewel. That is why I was concerned.

I have a friend who just stayed at the marriott for a week and she said there is a barrier built into the ocean so that the waves break out there and the water is calmer toward the beach.

If you are a Marriott rewards member you can use points instead of a credit card. Prebook it through the rewards desk.

Yes.....that area is a great place to swim. It's not rough at all.

Yes this Marriott is a beautiful hotel. You will not be sorry if you choose it. We spent five days there, March of '12. (Casino didn't pay well for hubby, but our friends did nicely) The pool is fabulous, but I really loved the beach.

mlmbar is right about the ocean barrier keeping the waves calm. We did not encounter rough water at all during our time there, but the photo posted above, does look much rougher than when we were there. With that rock barrier out there, the snorkeling along it was very good. We could not have snorkeled as close to those rocks as we were, if the waves had been as tall as those in the photo.

There are several places to eat there, some casual near the pool and some dressier. I was very happy with the food at all the ones we tried.

As much as I love Carambola, I may now have to try the Marriott. Haven't done so before as I was also advised by many that the sea was rough and they could not go swimming. Looking at those pictures it does confirm my thoughts. After reading the comments here, I will give it a try next time we are there.
