asda Posted July 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2014 I'm looking at buying the viva vino wine package on our cruise. Where on the ship do you buy it from? Plus do they still give you slips of paper for each one and you hand them in on ordering bottle? Can you order a bottle from a bar and drink it in the bar area? And can you order a bottle from bar and take to your cabin? Thank you.
meltingmoments Posted July 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) I'm looking at buying the viva vino wine package on our cruise. Where on the ship do you buy it from? Last year on our Jade trip, there was a table set up in the Atrium area. Plus do they still give you slips of paper for each one and you hand them in on ordering bottle? Yes they do this. Can you order a bottle from a bar and drink it in the bar area? You most certainly can :) And can you order a bottle from bar and take to your cabin? And yes to this as well :) Thank you. Basically you can redeem your little slips of paper anywhere on the ship and drink your wine anywhere on the ship! I had a bottle in the cabin, a bottle at the Martini bar, a bottle in the main dining room......you get my drift! ;) Have a fab time on the Jade......we LOVED that ship! :D Edited July 10, 2014 by meltingmoments

The slip was a manual one that was input into the system at a later time and we were not charged sales tax for the package. They do add 15% for gratuity. As meltingmoments said you may order it from any bar or bar server and consume it where you wish.

I had a bottle in the cabin, a bottle at the Martini bar, a bottle in the main dining room......you get my drift! ;) Have a fab time on the Jade......we LOVED that ship! :D Thanks. We are doing 14 nights .we like wine so we might order 2 x 8 bottles . Just added it up and the 15% it comes out about £14.60 a bottle which we would pay in a resteraunt at home. Don't want to book the UDP as that's comes to £1118 . And the cruise is quite port intensive so we will have a drink in port.

newmexicoNita Posted July 10, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2014 Next to specialty restaurants and freestyle the best thing NCL has ever done was introduce the wine package. I think the first of second thing we do after boarding is place our order. We love being able to get a bottle from the bar, the restaurant, room service or wherever. And the price is great!!! philatiger Posted July 11, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 11, 2014 I take it this is offered on all the ships? we are sailing on the Sun in December and would probably take advantage of this.
don't-use-real-name Posted July 11, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 11, 2014 Some where in this Forum I think the POA (Pride of America) sailing port of Honolulu does this program different. From what I have read here and there the VIVA VINO is the same on the rest of the fleet only note would be where to purchase it on board. If it is not obvious right in front of your eyes ask - look for where there is a line forming around a display of wine bottles. NCL does in most cases have all the wines on the list on display so you can read the label and see what you are buying. Also if you bought something and did not care for it you can exchange the remaining bottles for any other bottles in the group you purchased - there are three groups - The Enthusiast - The Aficionado - The Connoisseur. The first time I did this I realized it was a great deal and went back and bought more. The 750 ml bottle should give you 3 generous 8 ounce servings. Would be a conservative amount for 3 meal sittings or two meals with a small refill midcourse and of course YMMV. Buy the package - don't buy the individual bottle or drink by the glass for the best bang for the buck loonie euro lira whatever floats the boat ! On the NCL SUN look for the wine display table in the atrium close to the elevators opposite of the Registration Desk. Another display is offered topside on the Lido deck outdoor area near the swimming pool. Make your wine selection and show your stateroom card which will be use to debit your on board account - you will be given a small white piece of paper with your wine selection noted for each bottle. Take one or more of these pieces of paper to a restaurant or bar to redeem your purchase. Whatever is not consumed is corked and made available at your next venture be it a restaurant or bar. Check with the point of sale as to how they handle the bottles you want in your stateroom. Any further questions ask the crew or check with the registration desk - it is pretty simple straight forward and not that complicated and it sure beats lugging bottles on board paying the corkage fee and hauling the bottles with you to dinner lunch or whatever. Rare sparks1093 Posted July 11, 2014 #12 Share Posted July 11, 2014 Can you buy part way through cruise ie 2cd week? I believe that the packages are for sale throughout the cruise, but am not 100% sure. Best thing to do is ask about it when you first board. meltingmoments Posted July 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Can you buy part way through cruise ie 2cd week? I was surprised to see, on the Jade last year, that the package was still being offered the day before disembarkation. Not sure even I ( who likes wine! ) could finish 4 bottles in one night! Maybe I'll give it a go next cruise!!
