Hi, we want to do a Baltic cruise with our 16 yr old. We don't particularly want to pay a fortune for two cabins as I imagine the supplement will be huge, are there any ships that have a decent sized suite allowing some privacy rather than just having a normal four person bunk type cabin?

Celebrity has a nice one bedroom suite (Celebrity Suite). Also NCL has a two bedroom family suite that is not too pricy. I believe the family suites on the older RCI ships require 5 or more people to book, and I believe they mostly sending these ships to Baltic. Not sure about any others.

Sometimes, RCI will let you book fewer than the stated amount in a family suite....it's not something you can do online...you will have to call and book these cabins on the phone!

Download deck plans for whatever ship you decide to book, and have those in front of you, so you'll know what you're paying for!

In most cases, the rooms that are larger are also more expensive than getting two connecting cabins. It depends if you want a balcony or not. Normally two outside connecting cabins are going to be less expensive than a family stateroom with three people in it. You may want to invite one of your child's friends along (if the parents are willing to pay for the other child's passage). I know as a teen- my mother allowed me to bring a friend and it worked out great. At 16- it's all about hanging out with friends.

We just got back from a Baltic cruise on NCL's Star. We always book the 2-bdrm suite on their ships for us and our 2.75-yr old. It was his 5th cruise. The 2nd bedroom is perfect size for a child of any age. Gives them their own space, bathroom, tv, etc. The best part of it is you get NCL's suite benefits. Was a bit pricey at around $6.5K, but we booked it late.

We are doing a Baltic cruise July 2015 with our son who will be 15 then. We have booked a suite on Celebrity. We have not sailed with them before but have sailed on Royal Caribbean twice in a Grand Suite with our son which worked fairly well. We have also done the Haven 2 bedroom suite with NCL. Hope that Celebrity will be better as the bedroom is separate with an actual door whereas on Royal the suite has a curtain to separate the bed area.
