rene194215 Posted July 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2014 I have read about fog in Tampa. Is this something year round or just during certain parts of the year? I am on the Paradise in Oct, returning the 27th. Do I run the risk of fog? Thanks!
tampabrat22 Posted July 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2014 I think the most usual time for fog is Nov to Feb. We were delayed coming into the port a few times on December cruises.

We have fog here in Atlanta today. Pretty sure there is no way to predict fog for October.
SkyMaster Posted July 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2014 I've cruised out of Tampa, probably twenty times of more, and have NEVER been delayed, either coming, or going, for fog. (Probably just jinxed myself, as I board the beautiful "Paradise" tomorrow morning.) ;) As noted above, fog could happen at any time of the year. I wouldn't waste my time worrying about it. Winter has a habit of causing fog in the bay. I have traveled in December and had no delay and also been delayed long enough that the Paradise dropped anchor in the gulf and opened the casino up again till 3:00 pm. All depends but yes it happens often.
gtalum Posted July 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2014 In October you should be fine. It's December through February or March when fog hits regularly.
Captain Carnival Posted July 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 25, 2014 February is usually Fog Month.
rene194215 Posted July 25, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted July 25, 2014 Thank you to those with information reguarding the months of fog typically. My concern is flight reasons. If the ship would be delayed (or even a posibility) I would like to make plans ahead of time just in case. i would not want to have a flight at 12 and have the boat dock at 3 as others have said. The I would be in trouble since my flight would already have left.

"SKY" More often in the winter months, We were on the Legend a year ago this past Feb and sat outside the harbor for 5 hours. Even then, as we proceeded in following a NCL ship it was very slow with the fog horn going off. Finally got off the ship at 4:30 pm. Op, fall should be OK. FlaGrl4Evr Posted July 26, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 26, 2014 I have sailed twice in Oct from Tampa and have not encountered any fog issues. The second time, we had an 11:30 am flight and were at the airport having coffee by 9:15. Have fun. .

We were waiting for that NCL ship to dock so we could start our vacation. It was an awful long day of waiting. We were in the first group to board and I think we were eating in the MDR at 10 pm with luggage arriving by morning. We sailed the prior February and had no problems with fog. johnny75 Posted July 29, 2014 #14 Share Posted July 29, 2014 In answer to your question. Fog happens in Tampa Bay, Fall to winter. One of the FEW US ports that closes in fog. I have lost almost a full day at the start of a cruise and was stuck in the Gulf for almost a day until the port opened. Switched to Port Canaveral an all weather port!!! New Tampa Port is being considered outside the bridge.
