u2harmony Posted July 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I need a bit of help making this decision from experienced cruisers... My husband and I are currently booked on our second cruise (we've been on the Fascination) - Liberty in January, 2015 for 5 days....which sounds wonderful, however.... I have just noticed that I can change it to an Alaska cruise at the end of August, 2014 for the same price (I always thought Alaska was way out of my price range) but it's very reasonable.... I realize these are totally different cruises, and I know my husband being more of a cold weather person would LOVE to see Alaska - me, I cruise for the food and relaxation.... Which ship do you guys like more? The Liberty in the Bahama's in January or the Miracle in Alaska in August? Also, I've heard that the Miracle might be going in for service soon. P.S. We're in our early 50's and cost conscious. Thank you. I appreciate any and all advice!
ThirstyFrog203 Posted July 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2014 I didn't do Alaska on the Miracle, but our first cruise was on this ship when she was sailing out of New York a couple years ago. It's a nice ship. I loved it at the time as we never experienced another ship before.... This past February we sailed on the Liberty and we LOVED it. From all the other reviews we read about the Liberty, it may be the best ship in the entire fleet. It has all the 2.0 upgrades and the new dinner menu, which i thoroughly enjoyed. You also love Guy's Burgers.
Island Hopper58 Posted July 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2014 If you have never been to Alaska, go with the Miracle. Both Ships are great, but the Spirit class ships are my Favorite. So easy to get around. And Alaska can really get spendy, Still in the US, so port purchases and excursions will be on the higher end. But worth it for that once in a lifetime cruise. (unless you live on this side of the states.) Also remember the cost of flights that can get ya too. But again worth it at least once in your life. I find cruise prices are the cheapest part of our cruise vacations. Having to fly cross country for the Caribbean ports :)
Tee & Chilli Posted August 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Alaska excursions are very pricey. The cruise season is only May to Sept which causes the prices to be higher. Restaurants in ports are also on the high end.
uababs Posted August 1, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2014 I've been on both ships, prefer Miracle. Sailed her in Alaska last year. Loved Alaska so much we are going again next year on Legend, another Spirit class ship. Miracle in AK this year may be cheaper because of some propulsion problems she is having. Carnival has eliminated one port for most of the season. Still, the scenery is so beautiful you will have a wonderful cruise! You may want to compare this year's prices to the same period next year. If there is a substantial difference, take that into your planning! Happy cruising!
losijon Posted August 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Miracle is going to dry dock for two weeks in March. Still sketchy in what's being done while there. ..................................................... HawkIVette Posted August 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Miracle, nice ship but as stated above, has had some issues lately. We were just on it to Alaska in June. Also no upgrades, so nice ship but great scenic cruise (Alaska). Liberty, great ship. Been a few years since I was on it, but loved it. I liked Alaska, but don't need to see it again and NOT on the Miracle. I would grab the Liberty again anytime.
nimiq Posted August 1, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Hello, I have been on both ships but never to Alaska so will only talk about the ship aspect. Miracle has to be my favorite size of ship the Spirit Class. It is so easy to get around and as for me love the décor and the flow of the ship. The Liberty now That it has all of its 2.0 upgrade has to be a must for you. Eventhough I prefer the layout of the Miracle I must admit with the Upgrade this Liberty ship is unbeatable. If I book an other Carnival cruise I will only go if it's got the upgrades. u2harmony Posted August 1, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Thank you all very much. I am going to keep my Liberty reservation and plan more in advance for an Alaska trip hopefully next year. :)
