Is there a way to book an excursion now but bill it on my OBC?

On Board Credit may only be used once you are on board. It is my understanding that they do not sell every spot on an excursion online but hold a percentage back to sell on board. If you are going to wait I would advise making the Shore Excursion desk your first stop once you board.

Then book it now. Use your OBC for gratuities or cash out the balance at the Kiosk. Seems pretty simple to me.

Other cruise lines (like Princess) do allow you to book excursions without having to pay for them in advance. Unfortunately, Carnival is not quite there yet.

 

Book and pay for the excursion NOW if you know specifically what you want. The excursions are fully refundable until close to the excursion day, just in case you change your mind.

Someone in my traveling party emailed our PVP with this question. He said you must purchase online but you can go to guest services when you get onboard & have then refund your card then charge your sign & sail card for the excursion.

I would think that if you were allowed to just "book" and not pay, one, it would fill up the excursions quicker, blocking out a lot of people, and two, you would probably have a higher percentage of people not following through with the excursion.

"Cash out the balance at the Kiosk..." This is a new term to me.. what does it mean?? I didn't think this could be done? I don't recall any kiosks on my last cruise.. I did see an ATM and I did see a machine where you can check your OBC balance, or add to your OBC acct.. but I don't recall seeing a withdrawl function on there? If OBC is granted through Price Protection I don't think it can be removed as cash right? Unless some loop hole, like in the casino or something? Sure would like that idea as I have more on my granted OBC from Price Protection than what I know I will actually use onboard...

I haven't actively looked for the kiosks but I seem to recall one across from the guest services desk. Any price drop is considered a "refundable" OBC. If you don't take it during the cruise either by spending or cashing out (kiosk, casino), you will get it back at the end (or soon thereafter posted to your CC). But you "will" get it back.

No, you can't book now and pay later.

 

Carnival does have a low price guarantee that some people have had success with. If you book outside of the cruise line, you accept all risk that normally the cruise ship would.

I see your point, but don't forget that the excursions are fully refundable until a few days prior, so even if payment is required to reserve one, they will still be artificially full since some people may book them and then cancel them at the last minute since they don't have anything to loose. But I do see how not requiring any type of payment may encourage more people to reserve an excursion that they are later not going to take.

Agree with you about them cashing it out. However, I see a lot of posts where people have to budget to get on the cruise. I don't think it would be these people doing the excursions and then canceling at the end since they would be using their credit cards and have to pay for it early; which they are avoiding with the $50/deposit cruises and the cruises with payment required at the 30-day mark instead of 75-day.
