dettlja Posted August 5, 2014 #51 Share Posted August 5, 2014 For those that bought these, was the payment processed by Verizon or carnival? It would be a double bonus if I could earn 2x points buying these. Sent from my SM-N900V using Forums mobile app

My bank account shows the payment for the e-gift cards was processed by Verizon Smart Rewards. Ok so how do u use them on board? Just like any other gift card? Can it be used for the casino? Drinks? How does it work for excursions? Sent from my iPhone using Forums The e-gift cards I bought using Verizon's program are Carnival e-gift cards and can be used accordingly. I used some of mine to pay off a booking and am bringing the others on board to use on my S&S account. Edited August 5, 2014 by swetra .

swetra Posted August 5, 2014 Author #56 Share Posted August 5, 2014 Thank you so much for this tip! Every little bit helps!:DRebecca Your welcome. I agree. :) After you purchase how soon are e-cards available for use? Immediately need ours this week. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Yes, they can be used immediately but I had to call in to Carnival directly to apply the cards towards my booking. I think maybe because I bought mine on a Sunday, the CCL website was having trouble taking the numbers, the Carnival customer service person on the phone didn't have any trouble with them at all. They processed them as payment for my booking the same day I bought them from the Verizon program.

TrqoisWtrs Posted August 5, 2014 #58 Share Posted August 5, 2014 Ok so how do u use them on board? Take the ecard (or email in this case) to the Customer Service Desk when you board. They will then apply them as a credit to your sign and sail account to be used for whatever you would normally charge.
Swampbaby Posted August 5, 2014 #59 Share Posted August 5, 2014 Wonder if these could be used to book a cruise while on a cruise? Great way to save extra money by purchasing these just prior to leaving for our cruise. Would be like getting our motel at no extra cost.
swetra Posted August 5, 2014 Author #60 Share Posted August 5, 2014 Be sure to follow (click on) all the e-gift card links you receive via email so you can print the actual e-card that shows the e-card number, etc... and take that with you on the ship if you plan to use towards your on-board purchases. :)

Cookinmom2004 Posted August 5, 2014 #62 Share Posted August 5, 2014 This got me thinking about some points that I had built up on my credit card. I looked and they had carnival certificates! I was reading the terms and conditions and noticed this: This certificate may not be used to pay for the initial deposit, any government fees, taxes, onboard gratuities, games of chance and or any similar activities as determined by Carnival. I was calculating how much I would need for my gratuities, excursions, ect and was going to buy that much, plus $100. But reading that, it seems like I can't? :( Not sure if the Verizion thing has the same limitations
MasterMason Posted August 5, 2014 #63 Share Posted August 5, 2014 DareTooDream funny you mentioned that you have 3 phones still on unlimited data because we have 4 of our 5 phones also on the unlimited data plan. When I first looked into the Verizon Smart Rewards points my first concern was being very sure my plan would not change so I decided to not participate. I guess we could call that phone number yet I think I'd still be worried. Unlimited Data is like GOLD these days especially with all those apps everyone has gotten use to using without thought to how much data they suck up. Yvonne My wife has all 4 of our cells on the Grandfathered Unlimited Data. As such, we have to stick with these iPhone 4s's, but I can tell you that we are signed up for Verizon Smart Rewards as of about 5 months ago, and we still have our Unlimited. That's why I posted about the e-gift cards since I knew they will be easier to use. That's what I bought and used for my booking already. :) Edited August 5, 2014 by swetra . NCTribeFan Posted August 5, 2014 #65 Share Posted August 5, 2014 I have used credit card points multiple times to purchase the certificates for Carnival. I used to have to redeem points, and they'd mail me two $100 certificates which I then had to fill out with my booking number and mail to Carnival. They could only be used to pay on an existing balance. Now, I could still purchase these, but instead, I can just redeem the same number of points as cash back. I do that and then make a payment using my credit card, and use the cash to pay the credit card fee. That way, I earn points again. These eCards are NOT the same thing. Not at all. And the Gift Cards are not the same as the Cruise Cash (or whatever it is called). The restrictions are clearly stated on Carnival's website (for both the gift cards and the cruise cash). Anyway, since I just booked ANOTHER cruise today (did not use eGift cards for the deposit), I need to figure out what cards to use to pay what (11/1 sailing final payment due soon, 11/29 due a month later, onboard spending accounts to consider for both, receiving casino cash on both). Isn't it nice to have these 'problems'? :p

I don't have the Carnival credit card so I can't speak to how those points work but it sounds like you've go that system down to a science. :) Very nice to have several options. This is what it says on the actual e-gift cards I received that I purchased on the Verizon program: Carnival Gift Cards can be used on almost anything: towards the purchase of a Carnival cruise, activities/shore excursions, and redeemed onboard toward the Sail & Sign account for gifts, drinks, and fun. Redemption Instructions: To redeem towards the purchase of a Carnival cruise, call 1-800-Carnival or book online at http://www.carnival.com. To redeem towards activities/shore excursions or onboard gifts, drinks and fun, print and bring this e-card to the Guest Services Desk on board your cruise ship so it can be credited towards your Sail & Sign account. I have already used several to pay towards a booking and am taking some on the ship with me for my S&S account. These cards look and can be used the same as the ones I bought directly on the Carnival website back in June and have since used in the same way. As I've already mentioned in previous posts, the cruise certificates that are available to purchase through this Verizon program (or dollars or whatever they're called- LOL), do have restrictions that are listed on the Verizon website and I'm not familiar with how they work, that's why I'm just using the e-gift cards myself. :) Edited August 5, 2014 by swetra
swetra Posted August 5, 2014 Author #67 Share Posted August 5, 2014 Oh and yes, you are correct in that these e-gift cards are different from the "cruise cash" you purchase on the Carnival website, since that kind of "cruise cash" has to be used on that specific sailing. These e-gift cards from the Verizon program can be used on any sailings or combination thereof until you've used there total value. I do not work for Verizon or Carnival. I was just sharing a good deal I came across as a Verizon customer and I took advantage of it myself. :) If anyone has questions on how to use the Carnival electronic gift cards, you can call Carnival directly. I've simply shared how I bought them on this Verizon program and have used them. I know a lot others have already done the same. Good luck everyone! :)

NCTribeFan Posted August 6, 2014 #69 Share Posted August 6, 2014 I've shared this with folks on my various Roll Calls and some have also purchased them. Any "discount" is nice to receive. Thanks again for letting us know about these. If not for CC, I wouldn't have known about these (until I eventually stumbled across them on the Verizon site) or the Bonus eCards back in June (Carnival never sends me emails regardless of the number of times I've told them I actually want their spam!). Again, thanks. And I highly recommend that people go to the various websites (Carnival, Verizon, wherever) and do your homework to see if these things will work for you. Draw your own conclusions. Too often folks here just want to be spoon-fed answers and then find out later that whatever it is doesn't really fit their circumstances while it was perfect for someone else. Off my soapbox now! :p
bambilin Posted August 6, 2014 #70 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Be sure to follow (click on) all the e-gift card links you receive via email so you can print the actual e-card that shows the e-card number, etc... and take that with you on the ship if you plan to use towards your on-board purchases. :) Not only do I have a Verizon cellphone, I work for Verizon (not wireless) and I still cannot figure out how to find the Carnival e gift card on the Verizon site. Can someone help? I am so technically challenged!!
TrqoisWtrs Posted August 6, 2014 #71 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Can someone help? I am so technically challenged!! No worries. :) Log into your Verizon account. On your home page, there is a big square with your bill payment info. Next to that is a "Notifications Center". Under that it states your Verizon Smart Rewards and should show a balance, with a clickable "Redeem Now". That will take you into the site for using the points. Click on Travel, and then on the left hand side, Travel Gift Cards. The Carnival Cruise dollars are near the top, scroll further down for the E-cards. Hope that helps! :)
cynthe66 Posted August 6, 2014 #72 Share Posted August 6, 2014 I spend enough on my Verizon bill so to get back something, even a discount is great. Quick question; If I had say 600 in ecards and put them on my sign and sail card and don't use it all do I get that back in the form of another card, cash or do I forfeit it at the end of the cruise? WAHMto5 Posted August 6, 2014 #73 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Thanks for posting! I have used the Carnival Gift Cards for my last 3 cruises. When we get on board I put $100.00-$200.00 at a time and keep the rest of the gift cards with me and add as needed;)
tkportersat Posted August 6, 2014 #74 Share Posted August 6, 2014 Thanks so much for this thread!! My husband handles the Verizon bill and definitely doesn't pay attention to rewards so I would have never discovered this. Questions....Would folks recommend buying the gift cards over the certificates? Seems like the cards are more user friendly. I owe $1500 for our March cruise, so lets say I buy 15 of the cards and pay the balance on my cruise before final payment. Then I have to cancel, do I just get my money back? I booked casino rate, so no Carnival cancellation penalties.
Lizstar319 Posted August 6, 2014 #75 Share Posted August 6, 2014 This is great news, and oh so timely. Leaving next Saturday! We're on a Verizon family plan (in Mom's name, but I do all of the administration) so I logged in, signed us up, and we have 38k points. I think when I get paid on Friday, I'll be ordering a few of these babies to use instead of the cash I was going to bring onboard with me! It'll only be an extra $30 bucks or so (was planning on putting $300 into my S&S acct), but hey, $30 is $30. I'll recommend to Mom and sister that they do it as well! I'm looking now, but someone asked "if there are funds leftover at the end of the cruise when using Gift Cards to fund your S&S, do you get it back as a refund"....I have that question as well! I'll keep looking and post back if I find the answer. Thanks so much for this! GREAT info.
