So Secretive

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of new team members on this build, for a start Lisa Baur has moved on and she was a huge part of Oasis & Allure build.

A lot of Celebrity staff have joined Royal Caribbean in the last 2 years, hence why there have been so many changes in policies etc.

Nick Weir who is VP of Entertainment came from Celebrity.

Also they have a new SVP of Marketing.

I can assure you that there are a lot of new team members involved in Quantum of the Seas.

And it shows. :(

It only makes sense that there are new members.

The ship design changed sooo much from Oasis/Allure. Now I completely understand the downsize, and that is perfectly fine with me. But it seems like so many successful things that just seemed to be staples in the Royal cruise experience are gone. There doesn't seem to be any type of atrium and the Royal Promenade just doesn't seem as grand as it is on Voyager/Freedom/Oasis classes. I would love to see some renderings, etc. of the new spaces to help me envision them, but that goes right back to the secrecy thing...

And also, I hate the loss of traditional dining!!

I'm liking Two70, but hate the loss of VCL. I get the lounge wasn't used too much, but how about making it all specialty restaurants or something else up their instead, while still keeping the look of the VCL.

We are booked on that 3 day sampler 11/18, but we have not decided if we will take the cruise or cancel. I was hoping for more info by now - no excitement, no pre-cruise hype. I hate the dynamic dining concept - the MDR experience is one of the highlights of cruising for us, and if we wanted a "restaurant" experience, we would take more land vacations.

Disappointed.

Since this ship is going to Asia I would expect them to put in a mahjong room. Maybe an Asian restaurant. Any other ideas.

PS the Norwegian Spirit was built for the Asian market but the pier sinking of another Norwegian Ship caused the ships to be switched.

The Spirit had a Mahjong room.

I sailed on the Spirit just prior to her dry dock in Cadiz in January. What this ship had gained from being designed for the Asian market was a degree of elegance and quality. It was also interesting how connected the ship is to the sea. Even the outdoor area of their buffet restaurant was a tiered venue down the back of the ship with terrific aft views. Now, the adaption for the European market was a bit odd, but I think popular and that was the top deck 'bier garten grill'. Otherwise, it was a very traditional classic cruise ship.

Spirit was also a Meyer Werft built ship.

When you go on the RCCL US website, on the right hand side where is has the box with drop downs for Find A Cruise, it has the words there at the top of the box regarding Quantum Countdown.

For some reason I don't get the countdown to quantum in the royalcaribbean website

In my opinion, more changes for the Chinese markets are being made that may involve some modification of the interior structures. Why not do it all now instead of going back after 6 months? Painting, changing of rugs, art work can be done while the ship is going over to China, but not enlarging the casino, modifying the kitchens or structural work. I can see them easily changing the shop merchandise and adding a lot more of the color "red" all over the ship.

Again, just my humble opinion.

This doesn't make me happy. We did the Equinox over the Summer and I feel Celebrity has gone downhill from when I first did them several years ago.

NCL Spirit is one of our fave ships!! It has 'atmosphere'. My info was that it was built by the then owner, a billionaire, who decided to 'upgrade' it financially as a present for his wife!! The Versace carpet near the Guest Relations, is a case in point. Magnificent. And some very nice Asian touches.

We will not be making reservations for 'dynamic' dining, as we don't know how we will feel on any particular evening. On Celebrity, we do select dining and just go when we want!! Are we going to starve? Since we usually eat at 7.30-8.00pm it is our experience that on sailings from Soham, early dining is popular. We shall have to wait and see.

Anyone know who the Captains will be for these two new ships? Not a fan of Zini:eek::eek:

People are upset because they booked based upon Royal's ability to deliver an innovative experience. They have consistently raised the bar on each new class of ship. In the early stages, there was the hype regarding Two 70, North Star, Bumper Cars, etc.

The last reveal was for Dynamic Dining which was months ago.

Passengers that booked the first day, ( myself included) based our booking on faith that Royal would pattern the reveal similar to the launch of Oasis.

Now that many are close to final payment, it is only fair to reveal what they have in store for their paying guests.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect cruisers to know what they are buying before final payment.

Very well said!

Royal has been on a twitter frenzy since yesterday's float out. They've been posting Quantum based tweets practically every few hours now. It's been nice! Hopefully they keep it up! Last one about 5 minutes ago was some more artwork that will be showcased on the ship.

Lloyd, I see you responding to their tweets!

For those who don't know, follow @RoyalCaribPR and @RoyalCaribbean for all the Quantum updates/reveals.

Vintages confirmed to be on-board. If that wasn't revealed yet. One of the pieces of art they just released will be in there.
