Newwbeee Posted August 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Day 1 Los Angeles, California- -- 5:30 pm Day 2 Avalon, Santa Catalina Island 7:30 am -- Day 2 At Sea -- -- Day 3 Avalon, Santa Catalina Island -- 1:00 am Day 3 Ensenada, Mexico 9:30 am 6:30 pm Day 4 At Sea -- -- Day 5 Long Beach, California 8:00 am -- This is for the Carnival Live Presents Jewel 4 Day Baja Mexico Cruise Nov 9th. The map they have for the itinerary (see attached) shows the ship going to Catalina Island and then going out to sea only to wrap around and come back to Catalina Island. Does this mean they drop off and then pick up cruise guest or what? I'm looking to book this cruise but I'm confused at the hours we can visit this island. Has anyone taken one of the Carnival Live Baja Concerts? What really was the itinerary for those not watching the concert? Thanks
dad2my3 Posted August 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2014 I just got back from this itinerary in the inspiration. Day two was Catalina, and you had to be back on board at 4:00 pm. Not long after that, we sailed away from Catalina and did not return. We arrived at Ensenada the following morning around 8:00 am and left around 6:00 pm or so. Day four was a sea day. We arrived back at along Beach the next morning around 6:00 am. So after leaving Catalina late in the afternoon on day two, we never returned. Newwbeee Posted August 8, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Thanks for your quick response - though it isn't the same itinerary (close but different) This is the Live Concert Cruise and it leaves Catalina at 1am. The confusing part is the itinerary. I can understand landing in Catalina, having the concert that night and then leaving at 1am but it clearly states that it goes to sea then back to Catalina. Why wouldn't they just stay at Catalina Island for the concert so people that want to stay off the ship and skip the concert can stay until late.
Sillyjilly Posted August 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Why wouldn't they just stay at Catalina Island for the concert so people that want to stay off the ship and skip the concert can stay until late. Because they want to open the casino and their stores so they can make money. SadieN Posted August 9, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 9, 2014 Why wouldn't they just stay at Catalina Island for the concert so people that want to stay off the ship and skip the concert can stay until late. The Channel is dangerous enough during the day. It is a very choppy area even when it's calm. Except for the movie house, Avalon rolls up it's sidewalks around 7.
Shmoo here Posted August 9, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 9, 2014 This is what I'm seeing as the itinerary: Day / Location / Arrive / Depart Day 1 / Los Angeles, CA / - / 5:30 PM Day 2 / Catalina Island, CA / 7:30 AM / - Day 2 ... Carnival Live Concert Day 3 / Catalina Island, CA / - / 1:00 AM Day 3 / Ensenada, Mexico / 9:30 AM / 6:30 PM Day 4 / ... Fun Day At Sea --- --- Day 5 / Los Angeles (Long Beach), CA /8:00 AM I take it to mean that you arrive at Catalina at 7:30 in the morning the second day of your cruise. While there there's the concert. Then you depart at 1:30 in the morning (on Day 3 of the cruise). Arriving at Ensenada at 9:30 am on Day 3. ccruisequeen Posted August 10, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 10, 2014 I'm going on the Inspiration on Sept 15. Usually Catalina is formal night. Will that change for the concert? Also do Platinum cruisers get free tickets or are they separate?
Newwbeee Posted August 10, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Staying late at Catalina Island would mean they would have to speed to the next place to make up time. and I would rather be on the cruise where they leisurely sail. Thanks for all your help!:)
