DentoAlaska Posted August 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2014 I am in the planning process for our July, 2015 Alaska trip. The excursions at EVERY port look very interesting. My problem is that my husband LOVES to shop! If you had to pick the best port for shopping (we will be in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan) which would it be? I want to make sure that I leave time for one of his favorite activities. He loves to look in any kind of shop so that is not a concern. I just want to see which port has the biggest variety and the largest shopping area. Thank you!
Viv0828 Posted August 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Most excursions at each port end a couple of hours before you have to return to the ship. That gives most folks ample time to poke around the various shops. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Daisyloo Posted August 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2014 We did most of our shopping in Ketchikan, especially on Creek St. There were also a few nice shops on one of the streets that lead from Creek St. back to the pier. We were looking for made in Alaska things.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2014 I also like Creek Street as there as well in Ketchikan as the stores are not your chains and actually cary some items that are made in Alaska. Keith
sherryf Posted August 10, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Plan your other activities first, then work your shopping in around it. If he likes any shops, he will be happy in any of the ports.
DentoAlaska Posted August 10, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted August 10, 2014 Thank you, DaisyLoo and Keith! That's what I needed to know. He will also be most interested in things made in Alaska. I will put Creek St. on our "must do" list. ;)
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 10, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2014 DentoAlaska you are very welcome. You will see some very nice shops on that street. We like to purchase at least one item on each of our voyages that will be a remembrance of our trip and one that has been made in or very close to the area we are visiting. To me it makes it very special and also helps the locals who make these crafts. Keith
