Any chance that PRIDE will keep the bands after the 2.0 "downgrade"?

Ok...I know this has been beaten to death...but still would like to keep our opinions about this out there in cyber-space...

Of course, I'm glad the Pride is returning to Balt....

The Pride, as some small remnant of other ships, still have an official lounge venue for the cruise-classic bands like Music Asia, other Music ----bands, Hi-Lux, etc... rather then sticking in a hallway next to the casino...:p

Some 2.0's additions are great but, I for 1, will be staying clear of the ships that host Playlist Productions, if that means they lose the bands

The Carnival Pride dry-dock starting 10/19/14 until 11/09/14.

"In a press release that was released on January 30, 2014, Carnival announced that the Pride would be returning to Baltimore in March 2015 with new scrubber technology and some FunShip 2.0 features.

The FunShip 2.0 features that Carnival included in the press release are Guy's Burger Joint, Blue Iguana Cantina, Bonsai Sushi, WaterWorks, Hasbro the Game Show, Playlist Productions, EA Sports Bar, Blue Iguana Tequila Bar, Alchemy Bar, RedFrog Pub, Red Frog Rum Bar, Library Bar, and the Cherry on Top."

Any ideas?

I don't know about "Pride", but some of the ships have received the "food only" upgrade to 2.0, and retained the GREAT shows, and 10 piece band. I've been sailing "Liberty" a lot recently, simply because of that. I think that perhaps Carnival "beards" are getting the word that their "Playlist Productions" are not to well received, and are backing off of the ships that aren't already contracted to receive the Playlist downgrade. Let's hope so, anyway! ;)

We can hope but they seem to be continuing the playlist disaster.

I'm with y'all that are hoping the band will stay on Pride, but not expecting it. Carnival seems be going full-steam-ahead on the cutba -er, I mean "improvements" that they have been making at an alarming rate for years now.

I have not seen a ten piece band on a CCL ship in a long time. When I first started cruising in the nineties there were ten piece bands for the shows. I think the entertainment started changing in the mid 2000's or so. The bands were reduced to four person ,granted I have not been on all the CCL ships so I can't speak for all them. During the time between the nineties and mid 2000 there were live bands through out the ship. Since the 2.0 up grade program was implemented through out the Carnival fleet it seems the live bands have been disappearing. I hope you are right about the beards getting the word the Playlist Production is not well received. But I have not received a post cruise questionnaire in a long time so how could the beards know about any complaints?.

So true, ShakyBeef. Along with the lousy DJ's that they just won't give up in spite of the fact that most people seem to greatly dislike them.

Yep, you're right Gary. As noted, however, there is indeed a TEN PIECE BAND playing aboard "Liberty", and a six piece or so performing on "Paradise". I love the fact that they didn't "upgrade" the shows, and band on "Liberty", "Paradise", or "Dream". I plan on sailing these ships as much as possible, as I really enjoy the music.

We were on the Liberty in June and seem to remember only about 6-7 people in the band.

When was the last time there was a thread that said,

"What ship is my favorite DJ on?"

There is a conspicuous lack of passion for DJ driven music except in the disco...which is a whole other discussion!:p

Very true dont see what they add to our cruise.

I was on the Liberty in April and the DJ was actually pretty good he played different types of music but no rap or hip hop but it was spring break so that may have driven the selection of music that he played.

I have not read a single comment in support of the DJs (over live Lido music) or canned productions (over the live band in the theater)!

And attendance for the shows is way, way down over what it used to be -- used to be you couldn't get a seat, and that is certainly not the case anymore. Even people new to cruising who might not have experienced the "old" music comment on how lousy the music and shows are.

It seems that it is a failed experiment -- after so long, you would think that Carnival would wise up, suck it up, and bring back the music that people want.

Isn't the Freedom the last ship that has received 2.0 so far and they nixed the live band.

Yes, no live band in the show room.....just pre-recorded stuff. Though I'm not a big fan of Playlist Productions, I will say the sound system is incredible.

But that still doesn't hold a candle to a live band.

This discussion reminds me of being in a club years ago and the waitress came to our table to collect a cover charge. I asked what time does the band start? She says we don't have a band, the cover is because our sound system cost 100k. I said if I want to listen to records I can do that at home.

For us old farts that don't go clubbing anymore a live band is a real treat, any live band that is worth a hoot is 10x better than any DJ or canned music, IMHO.

I remember when I first boarded The Sunshine a couple of months ago. It was such a treat just to hang out in the atrium and listen to the young lady who played acoustic guitar and sang. To me that is way better than somebody with a laptop and a great sound system.

Agreed. I'm a musician (and have been for 43 years) and I don't go to places – meaning clubs – that have DJs. I spend nearly every weekend playing, or being sound engineer for other musicians, and there's NOTHING that compares to listen to people who have spent their lives perfecting their craft.

While the Playlist sound system is impressive, it would be twice as impressive if it were actual musicians playing through it.

and Sunshine has Playlist Productions and ALL of 2.0. :D

There is live music on all Carnival ships. There are also DJs.

Incredibly loud, in my view. As I posted on my 2.0 thread, DH described it as "an assault on the senses."

And for people prone to migraines not exactly a good thing to see all those flashing lights for such a long period of time.

I just thought I bring this one back...:)

Some great comments from those who have had the experience of sailing when the bands were something that you could count on.

My concern is- that as with gov't investing their bankroll into something new, they would never swallow their "PRIDE" and say they made a mistake:eek:

Add to that the influx of upper mgt. who came late to the party, and have no clue as to what this discussion is about....They're brought in to bring about, CHANGE!

Wait! I've heard that before ...somewhere:rolleyes:

BTW: What ships have NOT had the PLAYLIST programming, even after 2.0 eatery

upgrades?

Thanks,

AL

I'm not sure the OP's question was answered.

The next 2 posts after op's was closest to to real facts:

Clarifications on 2.0 changes: IMHO...

1. PLAYLIST: replaces entertainment programming on the ship available prior to"upgrade". Which means the Playlist-trained muscians will be used for all venues, except a sigle or duet occassionally.

So don't expect to see the beloved Philipino bands on board when pirated by Playlist.

2. 2.0 upgrades: The overall plan to upgrade bars, rest. etc., is OK with me.

Totally agree with above quote: Some 2.0's additions are great but, I for 1, will be staying clear of the ships that host Playlist Productions, if that means they lose the bands

So what ships, at this point, can we count on for a 3-5 person genuine cover band and hired on as a band?? Liberty, Splendor, Miracle SOME FANTASY CLASS ?

Are there any others? Next year will be interesting as I know many of the bands feel Carnival is looking to remove them....
