Venice on Sunday: need suggestions

We will be arriving in Venice on Saturday, Oct 18/14. However, we will not arrive until about noon, and will not have slept well on the plane overnight. The following day, Sunday, is our one full day in Venice.

I read that many things will be closed on Sunday (the Rialto Market, most stores, for example). So here are three questions.

1. What should we not miss during the Saturday hours we have available?

2. What can we do on Sunday? We are quite happy to wander and explore, but will we find places to eat? Will any of the major sites be open? Can we take the vaporetto to Murano or Burano?

3. Is there something special that we can do only on Sunday?

Thanks for any advice!

You are going to discover that nothing really closes in Venice on Sunday. The shops will be open. Not sure about the shops on the Rialto but this is hardly a huge deal. Most of the crap you find on the bridge is junk. The vaporettos will be functioning on weekends. The Basillica is open from 2-5PM on Sundays and from 9:45-5 on Saturdays. There isn't much you are going to miss on a weekend. This is a huge tourist destination and the old antiquated store closings don't apply.

You'll never starve in Italy on a Sunday! :) Most restaurants will be open, and Sunday lunch is very popular. I haven't noticed too many shops closed on a Sunday either, and museums will also be open, so you should have a good choice of things to do and see.
