Benefits of booking onboard

We purchased a future cruise certificate on our last Regent cruise. We will more than likely ask for the refund. The main reason being the escalation in Regent pricing. We intended to use the certificate towards a summer 2015 Med cruise. Unfortunatley 10 days on the Mariner is costing out over $9000 per person while a similar 10 days on Silversea costs out at approx $5500 (excluding air/excursions). Even if you take the air credit and excursion cost out of the Regent price, Regent is still significantly (approx $2000 pp) more expensive than the Silversea cruise. We don't want Regent excursions or Regent's economy air anyway. Even a 10 day Seabourn cruise is cheaper. So unless Regent offers a $499 business class upgrade offer early in 2015, then will will get our money back from Regent and take a competitor's cruise at significant savings!

Not sure why others are not figuring this out and opting for the competition. If familiarity and loyalty is the main driver for booking Regent, then that is coming at a steep cost.

BTW, if in fact the future cruise certificate has increased to $3000 then this is a major rip off. By comparison, I believe Seabourn's is $500 and is not as restrictive.

Thanks to each of you for your input! We were so much better prepared to make a decision onboard our recent cruise on the Voyager armed with all the information we received from my initial inquiry. We did, in fact, have Michael Coleman as our Cruise Consultant. He was very informative and answered every question we had with more than enough information. We did purchase a future cruise certificate and look forward to another Regent cruise some time in 2016!

We were just pricing Business Class air to and from Europe from Vancouver and found the fare for two people to be around $7,500. While there may be better fares available, the main non-U.S. air carriers (Air Canada, Lufthansa and British Airways) are quite expensive. In any event, if you to decide to go with Silversea, they are a nice cruise line.
