Go South Posted August 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2014 I have searched for and found many threads regarding this subject but am yet to find a clear answer. Not all Solstice Class ships seem to be the same and I need information specific to the Silhouette. So the simple questions is: On the Silhouette there is a smoking section on the promenade area of deck 5. Is it on the port or starboard side? I thank you. Rare cruisestitch Posted August 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2014 It is scheduled to be on the port side, however it is possible that temporarily the starboard side would be used, this happens when bunkering (for just those few hours when they are taking on fuel) or when there are very high winds and the port side is unsafe. Gracie115 Posted August 25, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 25, 2014 don't think they'd switch the sides, just shut it down and refer smokers to upper deck smoking areas....but could be wrong....
RickT Posted August 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Yes, I've never seen them "switch sides". While on this topic I think it would be nice if Celebrity better marked the smoking/non smoking areas.
ShadowzBtlr Posted August 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2014 Smoking areas on S-class ships (Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse & Silhouette) include the following locations: Deck 12 (Pool Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside just forward of the mid-ship elevators Deck 14 (Lido Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port- (left) side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted. Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre
Rare cruisestitch Posted August 26, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 26, 2014 Yes they do switch sides, in cases of bunkering, while doing repais on one side, during high winds and other events that make the port side unsuitable for use as the smoking side. Interesting....I'd probably be pretty upset if I was above that area and smoke started drifting up, as it DOES on the other side, onto my veranda. I've never seen them switch, not that I've looked, but seems to me X would be opening themselves up for complaints when they do it.
Go South Posted August 26, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted August 26, 2014 We have chosen to stay in a 2c Veranda cabin on deck 6. We originally chose one on the port side, but have now changed to one on the starboard side, so would certainly be upset if Celebrity started changing sides for the smoking area! Rare cruisestitch Posted August 26, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2014 The change to starboard side is for a few hours only, not for the entire cruise. Bunkering takes place on maybe one port day per cruise, if that often. Maintenance, well that is a once in a while thing, if a deck needs re surfacing for instance. It is not something to get too worried about, in the course of a whole cruise it probably won't even happen, but those who say that smoking is always always always on the port side never take a possible change into account.
