cigloo Posted August 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2014 Hello all, We are finishing up a cruise in Venice late May 2015 and will continue our travels by car for two weeks going inland. We will start in Florence, then Bologna, Parma, Brescia and Lake Como ending in Milan. We are so overwhelmed looking at hotels that we thought we would reach out to you all. Location is important, $300.00 a night budget (less is better), breakfast at hotel and clean. We would love to hear some recommendations. Thank you, Jen and Sam :D

Twickenham Posted August 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Considering that you will have a car, the hotel we stayed at in Florence would be a good option for you - the AC Hotel Firenze. It's clean, modern, with a pretty decent breakfast buffet (which may or may not be included in your rate - I know using Marriott points we had to pay), and importantly for you there's underground parking right in front of the hotel, and it's just outside Florence's Traffic Limitation Zone. The views of the city from the rooftop terrace are pretty amazing.

-Lew- Posted August 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2014 We stayed at the Rapallo Hotel in Florence for 5 nights prior to a cruise last year. We would definitely stay they again. Here's a link to a map showing its location. Lew
Rare Hlitner Posted August 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) We do have a favorite (home away from home) hotel in Florence that we use whenever we have a rental car. It is called the "Hotel David" and is located about a 20 min walk from the center of the tourist area (a wonderful walk along the river). This Hotel is more like an inn and has the duel benefits of free parking and being outside the local ZTL (limited driving zone). DW thinks of the place as a large B and B because it has a nice living room area (where you meet other folks) and also serves free wine/cheese every evening. For those that do not want to walk, the local bus stops right across the street and will quickly get you anywhere in town for a couple of Euros. CintiPam Posted August 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Hands down, the best most personal service I ever have experienced at a hotel was at the Hotel Davanzati in Florence run by a family. Just a superb location, a cocktail reception every evening, dinner suggestions and reservations happily made, reservations for the Uffizi and Accademia and any other excursions you want happily made. Note there is one flight of stairs up to the hotel but the owners will carry your luggage for you. You would have to contact them about where to stash the car during your visit because indeed it is very central in the pedestrian zone.
cigloo Posted August 24, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Thanks everyone. The car is not an issue as we are not parking it just having it for traveling between cities.
