Nina2014 Posted August 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2014 We are booked on the Volendam for Sep 3. Our Flight arrives in Vancouver at 12.20 pm that day. We have booked the flight and transfer to ship thru' HAL. I was nervous about tight timelines but HAL assures us that it will be enough time between airport and ship to board for departure at 5 pm. I guess we will reach the ship around 2.30 pm? What is the best place to have a late lunch that day? Will the Lido or "Dive in" be open? We will be starving since there's no food on the flight. Will we miss anything by arriving so late? Any advice is much appreciated...

The Lido might be open - my memory is not the best, but I seem to recall the sandwich station and some other places open on embarkation day. PatLuv Posted August 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2014 you can purchase some quick food after you get thru security to eat while you wait to board the plane, and also something to drink & snack on in your carryon for when you're on the plane. DrTee Posted August 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2014 I agree about buying something. You're assuming everything will go smoothly and you'll be on the ship in the early afternoon. I've seen a few times when boarding was delayed (for various reasons), and you get stuck in the terminal waiting. Even if it's just a protein bar or something, make sure you're prepared so you don't have to go too long without food (that makes me very cranky). Nina2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted August 24, 2014 OP here. I think we will buy some food after security for the flight for sure. Hopefully Dive In will still be open if we board later afternoon to grab a quick snack. thanks for your suggestions!
PathfinderEss Posted August 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2014 You will make it in time to eat at the 'Dive In'. If you like french fries, you will really like them the way they are prepared at the 'Dive In'. May I welcome you to Cruise Critic and wish you a great cruise on the Volendam. Typhoon1 Posted August 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2014 The Lido should be open, serving an extensive embarkation buffet. Welcome to the HAL forum.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic. The Dive-In will be open. The Hot Food section of the Lido closes about 2 - 2:30. But the sandwich, pizza, salad and dessert section will be open until about 4 PM.
