zwoodcock Posted August 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Hi all! I thought this would fit better in the Ports of Call forum, but they didn't have a section for the entire Eastern Caribbean area. My wife and I are going on a honeymoon cruise with Carnival the first week in January. It is an 8-day Eastern Caribbean cruise that stops in San Juan, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Grand Turk. My question is: what is the winter weather like in that region? I tried looking it up via a Google search, but all I really found were year-round averages. I know that the temperatures tend to be cooler when sailing, what with the breeze and cooler temps over water, but what about the ports of call? Thanks guys! Krazy Kruizers Posted August 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2014 They will be comfortable. Very little humidity.
Nebr.cruiser Posted August 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2014 I haven't been to Grand Turk, but the other ports (numerous visits) have always been warm to hot, and I've never had a rainy day in those areas. We usually cruise in early December or in January. Of course, weather is unpredictable, but on average it should be very nice. It can be cooler leaving South Florida or in the Bahamas, although we've never experienced cooler than 60's in Dec.-Jan. there.
Loving My Life Posted August 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) We have sailed to the Caribbean the first week in January twice in the last 2 years. The first was a southern cruise that included San Juan, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. It was a comfortable 80 degrees in St. T and St. M with low humidity. San Juan was 85 degrees and so humid. This second (this year) included Grand Turk and it was 80 degrees with high humidity, though not as bad as in San Juan. The water was like bath water in all locations. I prefer December and January sailings when heading to the Caribbean. Edited August 27, 2014 by Loving My Life
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2014 It's a very nice time to go. Weather can range but normally 70's and 80's. On time we were there then and it was quite a bit cooler. Keith
navybankerteacher Posted August 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 27, 2014 We spend to weeks in St. Maarten in January every year. You will find the temps in the low 80's practically every day with fairly comfortable humidity - the sea water temperature will be around 78-82. cb at sea Posted August 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 27, 2014 Pack your summer clothes for those ports. Now, if you were going to the Bahamas or Bermuda, it could be cooler, but you're not...so it's summer all the way!
