Which side of the ship to see the ports?

We are wondering which side of the ship we should get a cabin on that would be best to see the following ports.....Sicily, Mykonos, Ephesus, Rhodes, Santorini, Athens and Naples.

It is nice to sit on our balcony and see the port as opposed to looking at the water.....just our preference.

Most ports have more than one dock; assignment is by the Harbor Master based upon a combination of considerations including things like other traffic, arrival and departure times of all ships, stores replenishment and refueling operations, tender operations, port/terminal maintenance considerations, and--no doubt on occasion--whim...

And then, the Captain may request--but is not necessarily assured--a certain orientation to accommodate things like crew life boat/safety drills and routine ship maintenance performed by staff...

As there are no assurances, select a cabin that appeals to you and hope that it will work out to your preference... Odds are that--half the time; perhaps more/perhaps less--you'll be right!

Not that it matters but know that you will be ported at Kusadasi when calling at Ephesus; the archeological/historical site is some miles away...

We call it "The view lottery"!

Sometimes you win. And sometimes you loose. And sometimes you wake up to a beautiful view and think you have won, but then you go up on the promenade deck before breakfast and realize that you actually lost. Or sometimes the view is even worse on the other side - so when you think you have lost, you actually won :P

Well... most ports we have been to is good at any angle, and just by being on the cruise we feel like we have won! :D

It truly is a crap shoot as other posters have eluded to. Sometimes you'll dock on the left, sometimes the right, sometimes bow in, sometimes stern in, sometimes there will be ship next to you sometimes not.

Book two cabins. One on port side and the other on starboard side. You will get twice the Pick Your Own Perks plus twice the captains club points, which will also move ever so much closer to the fabled Zenith level that so many covet.

The only place I have found which might dictate whether we had a port or starboard cabin is Venice and that would now only be if we were travelling on a small ship as the bigger ships are banned from the Giudecca canal. if you are on a small ship and you are leaving from Venice get a port side cabin and if you are ending your trip in Venice get a starboard side cabin. It really is worth it!

If you are on the S class the cabins alternate between having the bed by the balcony or bath. You cannot rearrange the beds as they are set. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Either way you will be able to live with.

Happy cruisng 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
