TardisDance Posted September 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2014 I just wanted to add that no, obc cannot be used towards a bar setup purchase. It's prepaid and your amenity invoice will be updated once your credit card is run through. I confirmed this with the Breakaway's group event coordinator. OK the OBC can not be used to purchase the Bar-Set-Up since this happens pre-cruise ! "BUT" wait if you elect to purchase the Bar-Set-Up when you get on board and this is more expensive to do this ($3 bottle fee as opposed to 15% gratuity a difference of $12 on a $80 bottle of hootch) could you bill this on your Sail & Sign account and then use the OBC to pay down the S&S account. Buying anything Pre-cruise requires a credit card payment up front but when you get on board and use your Sail & Sign account then the OBC should be tapped to make payments - except for the DSC gratuities ! The wisdom of our frequent cruisers for the answer - Please ! You could be given thousands of dollars of OBC but what is the use if you can not use it to pay down cruise expenses and activities ? And I don't need no stinking "T" shirt from the gift shop !

don't-use-real-name Posted September 5, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 5, 2014 How do you purchase the bar setup while on board? Is it a room service type item that I can order? YES Room Service is what you would call to order one or more of the bottles on the list posted previously. Reminder pre cruise there is a service fee/charge of $3.00 per bottle and if ordering on board thru Room Service there is 15% gratuity fee/charge so on a $80 bottle of hootch that would be $12.00 = $92 for that one bottle billed on your sail & sign cabin account. This method costs $9 more than the pre-cruise order. Nice to know in that if you order pre-cruise and need more or a different selection of spirits it is and can be done. The 3 garnishments is offered pre-cruise - I did not ask about the garnishments if ordered thru Room Services. The PHONE NUMBER to order Pre-Cruise is 1 800 327 7030. When connected a menu is offered - presume you already have a reservation so have that number and details available --- So from the menu select where your reservation was made or if a latitudes member select that function --- If you go to the end of menu strangely I was disconnected and told to call at another time ? No return to the main menu or bail out to another level. Cheers !
TardisDance Posted September 5, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Thanks for the info. I previously ordered a bottle of grey goose as a pre-cruise amenity. Now I can order something else and use onboard credit towards it at least. I thought I was going to be stuck ordering endless beer buckets to use it up. May still do that anyway, but at least I have options now :) Sent from my SPH-L710 using Forums mobile app

don't-use-real-name Posted September 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted September 6, 2014 Thanks. What a bummer, all the booze I like are the $103 charges.... :( YES it is a bummer - the other alternative is the UBP (Ultimate Beverage Package) which is quite costly unless you do a great of drinking ! But to put some rational thinking into this equation - the bottles of booze are full liters. The fifth was designed for the game of Golf so I am told and that fifth furnishes 18 measured shots (1 for each hole 18 hole gc). A liter is a one fifth larger therefore would have more measured shots (by my figuring about 6 more). Thus you go to any bar or restaurant and order a 1 shot drink for say $7 +/- x 24 (18+6) = $168 worth of drinks. Now you are paying somewhere between $83 to $123 for your personal bottle mixed the way you like your drink savings of $45 to $85 and not including any gratuity/tip included and what you would offer to a server at the restaurant or bar. YMMV - and of course the bar tender or restaurant server may top off your drink with a generous pour if tipped continually ! So this is a bit easier to swallow in that respect - still yet NCL has a captive alcoholic audience unless ye be a rum runner pirate - Yo-ho-ho "16 men on a dead man's chest" and bottle of rum for each of us mate ! Linda Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app That could have been because you were in a Haven suite with, more than likely, an exceptional butler. Others in a non-Haven cabin will most likely not get this level of service. Always a good idea to be prepared and not need it than need it and not have it.

Back in May we were in a DOS on the Getaway which comes with three bottles of spirits. One of our requests to the pre-cruise concierge was Absolut Citron. Of course they offered plain Svedka instead. We declined saying we didn't care for it. We then asked for regular Grey Goose. Yes, we could have that but it would be a $40 surcharge, however, we could get Svedka Citron. Again, we don't care for Svedka (this really makes us sound like some kind of vodka connoisseur, I assure you we are not). So then she says we can get plain Absolut and that was what we chose. Of course, then we get on the ship and they try to charge us an upcharge for all three bottles we had chosen. Thankfully, I saved the email exchange where it was clearly stated they were all even exchanges (and yes, before it's brought up by someone else, I do realize there is a set list of spirits for the DOS and OS) and printed it out to take with us and they relented. I'm sure someone in the pre-cruise concierge dept at NCL corporate got a phone call over that one. So, after all that, Yes, they do have Absolut (at least on the Getaway) and we did get it. Did that have anything to do with us being in a suite? Quite possibly. Never hesitate to go up the chain of command if someone tells you no, especially when it's in black and white on the list of spirits for a bar set-up. Linday Posted September 19, 2014 #25 Share Posted September 19, 2014 I found this list interesting that was posted in 1/2014. It is a picture of brands/prices if you order onboard. There is no Absolute but there is Belvedere and several other vodkas plus brands of other types of liquor - none of which are on the bar set-up list. Perhaps they feel they offer enough options in the bar setup. Sadly for me they must have Makers Mark under the Top Mast Ultra Premium category. see post #82 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1966071&page=5 Linda
