nitro2448 Posted September 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Has anyone ever taken a folding chair with them on a cruise ? If so did you have any problems getting them on board, did you just send them through with your luggage ? My next three cruises I will be in an interior room with a walkway view, thought a couple chairs would be nicer than those benches.
Lovefuninthesun Posted September 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I guess you could take those folding beach/camp chairs, that fold up and fit in a carrying bag. Seems like a big pain to have to schlep those along, though.....
jmcancruise Posted September 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2014 We haven't done this, but considered it on a recent cruise. I don't expect it would be a problem.
nitro2448 Posted September 8, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I didn't think it would be but thought I would see if anyone had done it. I like sitting out at night but not really on those benches.
nitro2448 Posted September 8, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Don't really see how it could be a pain, strap it on my suitcase and give it to the porter. I'm not carrying around the ship me like some people do with cases of water, that's a pain
serene56 Posted September 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Its very windy out there. Especially at night
runner15km Posted September 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I have never seen a folding/camp chair on a cruise. I suspect they could be a safety issue and not allowed on the ship.
nitro2448 Posted September 8, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I would take it in when not using it, not leave it out. It's no more of a safety issue than the chairs they have on the ship.
pbsteve Posted September 8, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I've seen people walking off the ship with them and heading to the beach, but never seen one used on the ship itself.
marshhawk Posted September 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 8, 2014 What bench? And where do you sit out at night with a bench?
Swampbaby Posted September 8, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 8, 2014 What bench? And where do you sit out at night with a bench? They must be in a 4J cabin. In the very front of the ship on 2 or 3 decks there is a walkway that anyone can go to through a door at the end of the hallway. Very few people go there. We are booked in a 4J for our next cruise and I've thought of how t get a chair to sit on but think the most I would carry is a stadium seat with a cushion instead of a chair. There is only a bench on these outside deck. Some people call them the hidden balcony cause so few people ever go there.
nitro2448 Posted September 8, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted September 8, 2014 What bench? And where do you sit out at night with a bench? Very front of ship, usually deck 6,7, and 9. Not very many people know about those decks or rooms.

If it wasn't for the room I'm in I wouldn't take one on the ship, but think it will be nice to have at that part of the ship.
mikey806 Posted September 8, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2014 My sister took a folding director style chair with her on miracle she checked as luggage. And used it on balcony. She been having trouble getting out of lower chairs. Was easy to store when not in use
Swampbaby Posted September 8, 2014 #16 Share Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) Mine is on deck 7 in February and deck 9 in October. I knew deck 7 and I thought 6 and maybe 3 but not sure if that is on all ships. We are in 7106 on the Sunshine in Feb. picomullet Posted September 8, 2014 #17 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I have thought of this several times but never taken one. I wanted to use it in our Inside cabin as there is no chair with a back only the stool. I sure DH will not go for this. Something else to haul around. sewut Posted September 8, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I've been considering this also. We have a 4J for B2B cruises in January 2016 on the Triumph for 21 days. There are no chairs in the room, no sofa, only the stool for the vanity as far as I can tell. I was wondering if we could get our steward to bring us a small table if there isn't one already and we could use it with our camp chairs for room service. nitro2448 Posted September 8, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I think I will prolly take a couple cheap ones, I can't see it being an issue. I'm not going to leave them on the deck when I'm not using them.
Shaded Lady Posted September 8, 2014 #20 Share Posted September 8, 2014 OP and others- if you strap it to your checked luggage make sure you put a separate luggage tag on it just in case they get separated...

Yeah I planed on making a luggage tag for each chair. Thanks
momof3cruisers Posted September 9, 2014 #22 Share Posted September 9, 2014 OP and others- if you strap it to your checked luggage make sure you put a separate luggage tag on it just in case they get separated... I would put them together in a duffle bag with the tag around the handle. Seems like it would be awkward and bulky strapped on the outside of luggage. More likely to get damaged too. OP I assume you are driving to the port?

I will only strap them to my luggage while I'm pulling them, I will unstrap them when I give them to the porter, since he will have cart. For my February cruise I will be flying, when I get to Orlando I will rent a car. I will go by Walmart to see if I can find a cheap chair. In October I will be driving. garyf3 Posted September 9, 2014 #24 Share Posted September 9, 2014 I took one along on my cruise on the Pride, put a luggage tag on it and gave it to the porter, made it to the room without any issues. Used it on my extended balcony and when not in use it was in my room folded up in a corner out of the way.
sailor_jimc Posted September 9, 2014 #25 Share Posted September 9, 2014 Just a thought.. you can take the chairs if you want to, as i agree the bench is not a comfortable seat. But there are railings all around those forwards decks that you can only see over if you are standing at them.. So consider that if you bring a chair you are going to be sitting there looking at a white wall railing. You are not going to be able to see much. So if you just want to be able to sit outside, that is fine...
