patiolaterns Posted September 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2014 Would like to know where the Azamara Quest would dock in Stockholm Sweden? Is it close to Gamma Stan - i.e. walk off ship or would require transportation for site seeing. Cruise is scheduled for Aug.13, 2015 Thanks

Cruise is scheduled for Aug.13, 2015 Thanks Not certain if you are embarking there or it's a port of call. This July we were berthed at Frihamnen, also known as Vartahamnen, for embarkation and there were initially plans that, the next day, we would move to a tender location nearer the downtown. At Frihamnen, north of the downtown, you are at least a bus ride to Gamla Stan. There is valuable information about this bus at the Ports of Call Forum on this board. Because of luggage, we hired a taxi from the downtown area and it was about a 20 minute ride. For some reason we did not move to the tender area, but had we done so it would have been much closer to Gamla Stan. Hope this helps and that you enjoy this itinerary as much as we did. BBMacLaird Posted September 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2014 I'm told it is far too early to confirm the dock in Stockholm 2015, as these things change until very close in.
patiolaterns Posted September 12, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Thanks for the info - we are embarking from Stockholm (have 1.5 days here before heading out) so thinking about site seeing while there and maybe allowing two additional days to the 1.5. If your trip this year started in Stockholm, could you tell me what airlines/stop over you used? Been looking at KLM and Air Canada and Icelandic Air etc. One more question, did you use the Azamara transfer from the airport to the ship? Thanks again, it is going to be a long wait until next year:)

We used Choice Air to book Air Canada flights with a transfer in Copenhagen; their flights were cheapest and most efficient. We also like KLM, but avoided Icelandair simply because, with fewer flights, we worried about missed transfers etc. We added an extra day in Stockholm and highly recommend that since the embarkation day is busy and the .5 day is, in our view, insufficient. Stockholm itself was second only to St. Petersburg in our estimation as a port of call. Perhaps its hockey heritage was a factor :). We stayed at the Radisson Blu Waterfront: great location and facilities. Thus we didn't have use of the ACC airport transfer. There is a Stockholm native on the Ports of Call Forum who provides valuable guidance as to sights, transportation etc. Enjoy your planning! Found a good flight Toronto to Copenhagen to Stockholm for next year. Wondered if you would share your experience with the connecting flight thru Kastrup Copenhagen airport? Do you have to clear security before heading to your connecting gate or is it similar to Toronto and you get off the plane and head for the next connecting gate? Thanks
roaming_kiwi58 Posted September 15, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Today we finished a cruise which started in Stockholm two weeks ago. We were berthed at Vartahamnen, which is a little further on from Frihamnen. Because of luggage we got a taxi from our central Stockholm hotel to the port - cost SEK200. The following day (we had an overnight at Vartahamnen) we took the cruise shuttle into Stockholm, but walked back to the ship from the Vasa Museum - it took us 35 minutes to walk. If we had known how long it would take we would have walked into town as well.

Wondered if you would share your experience with the connecting flight thru Kastrup Copenhagen airport? Do you have to clear security before heading to your connecting gate or is it similar to Toronto and you get off the plane and head for the next connecting gate? Thanks Well, since I try to repress any memories of dealing with security I can't clearly remember what happened at Kastrup. :) However, if you are concerned about time to complete a connection then we had 80 minutes and, despite the arrival and departure gates being far apart, we made it easily. Our Stockholm flight (SAS) was a code share with Air Can. and flew out of the same terminal. We also checked to make certain there were later Stockholm flights, lest our planned connection fail. Much good advice on security, no doubt better than mine, and other matters is available from Danish Viking, a resident of Copenhagen, on the Ports of Call forum. As well, this link will provide lots of information from a citizen of Stockholm. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1017275
roaming_kiwi58 Posted September 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 16, 2014 We stayed at the Scandic Sergel Plaza. The hotel is a bit dated, but the room was spacious and comfortable, and the hotel is conveniently situated. Would use it again.
