We will be sailing to Bermuda on the Breakaway on 9/21/14.

My son will be dropping us off that morning and picking us up on the 28th.

WHat is a good time to arrive???

Do the signs at the pier give good directions???

Does anyone have any "tips" in regards to being dropped off at the Manhattan Pier???

We were on the Breakaway on 8/31/14.

We arrive around 10:30 AM. We like to go early. No line to check in and at the security area. We were in boarding group number 6.

They started boarding around 11:30 AM. It was announced that we can also drop off our carry-on bags in our rooms.

We were able to eat lunch, tour the ship, take pictures and use the pools before the ship became crowded.

It's very easy to be dropped off. Just follow the drop off signs. Don't follow the parking signs.

Go all the way past the other Piers. Look for the big 88 and you can't miss Breakaway.

Here is a good post with pictures. Just don't follow the "parking" route.

Have fun!!!

Its a very simple process. Just drive up to the front of pier 88. The porters will take your bags right from the car. You won't see the luggage until delivered to your cabin. Keep your essential medications, cameras, travel docs. Tip the porter when they take your bags.... $10-20.

You will then be directed by personnel to the lines for boarding processing.

Simple, fast and pleasant. Arrive around 11:oo or so for easiest boarding.

You can then go to the buffet or other venues for drinks and lunch. The Intrepid Carrier is right next to the pier and the ship will, "overlook " it, very impressive.

Enjoy.

OMG have I been under tipping!!! That seems like a lot to me for a porter handling 1 or 2 bags onto the cart that is usually only 6 feet away. I thought the usual was 1 to 2 dollars per bag. Was I misinformed or is the going rate really $10 - $20's. I am really being serious, I thought is was really a couple bucks a bag. I'm so embarrassed.
