I havent decided whether or not to sail carnival next trip due to lack of entertainment. I thought maybe if i sailed a larger ship?? Anyway, it seems that the best ships are very very far from me as i live in the midwest. The glory, conquest, breeze, magic.... ect. My husband is scared to fly... uhgggg.... so.. question is this:

Anyone know if any larger ships will move to the following ports anytime soon? Charleston, Tampa, Jacksonville? Or port canaveral even. The dream is there but ive done the exact same cruise the ship offers.

The Liberty and Valor are switching ports next March. The Liberty will leave PC and go to San Juan and the Valor will leave San Juan for PC.

Tampa will not get the larger ships because they cannot fit under the Sunshine Bridge. Jacksonville port is too small for anything other than a Fantasy class ship. Pretty much same for Charleston. If you want a big ship, it has to be Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or PC on the east coast.

Tampa can't handle anything bigger than Spirit class because of having to sail away under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Port Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale and Miami have the bigger ships.

(PC is still pretty driveable from the Midwest -- we drove to Orlando several times when we still lived in Indianapolis -- not much longer than driving to Tampa)

Iam in Gulfport ms and our port here has just stared to make the port deeper for larger ships to come in. A few yrs back Carnival used Gulfport when New Orleans port was shut down it was the Conquest they brought here and I went out during that time on her easy living so close to the port. Iam hoping that once this is complete that Carnival will come here. A few yrs back they closed there Mobile port but every now and again they will divert a ship to Mobile and bus the folks back to the port of New Orleans. The Mississippi coast area has so much to offer tourist from Casinos to beautiful beaches and traffic is not so bad here.

Jacksonville also has the Dames Point Bridge with very low/little clearance, even for the Fascination during high tide.

One of the reasons that Carnival left Mobile was it's close proximity to NOLA. It was redundant. Gulfport is even closer to NOLA. Don't count on it.

The freedom is going to Galveston, and boy is my mother pissed about it. she only books that ship, same room every time... but won't cruise from texas for some odd reason.

That's an odd cruise requirement. Is there any reason why she will only sail in a specific room on a specific ship out of a specific geographical area?

I haven't sailed out of Jacksonville before so I was sure which side of the bridge the terminal was located on. So I guess they alter the sailaway time based on the time???

If they can't get out in time before the tide rolls in, they may not be able to leave Jaxport until after 10pm or so. I'm not 100% sure of the time, but if there's fog and high tide, the ship may not get into the port until 2-3pm and won't leave until after midnight. Obviously, it doesn't happen as much as Galveston but it happens on occasion and some may be concerned of an interruption to their vacation.

Maybe she's having a fling with one of the crew? :D

Nah... I vote no on this one. What happens after 9 months when they go on vacation and change ships?

If lack of entertainment is an issue for you, I would suggest you to start looking for another cruise line! prices are becoming very reasonable...

Just said in an other post this morning due to lack of entertainment and mediocre food, no more Carnival for me for now! most probably in 2016 when their new ship comes online.

Need another ship in Manhattan. Miracle was here for a long time, then Splendor, now Splendor pulling out for the winter months. We need a fun ship like Liberty to come to Manhattan Jan-April and go to Caribbean, NOT the Bahamas..so many people from NE would hop on this ship to get away from the winter even if they had to endure 1 1/2 days to and from to do it. Just MHO and what I WANT lol!!! ;)

If everyone in New York cruised on the Carnival ships more, you would still have a year round ship doing cruises. If bookings don't increase, you'll go the way of Mobile or even Europe, among others. When Carnival can't even get over $200pp [or even free], while their competitors are getting over $1,000pp, it is no longer a profitable market for Carnival.

Carnival had to deeply discount Mobile. No more Mobile. Carnival's target demographic couldn't justify the cost of a transatlantic flight. Europe cruises were deeply discounted to offset the airfare and the profit margin was no longer there. Now, we're lucky if the Carnival Vista will have a full season in Europe.

This full time ship in New York was supposed to have everyone dancing down 5th Ave, only for Carnival to struggle to have their ADRs anywhere near that of their competition. The occupancy levels were fixed by offering free cruises.

Carnival Cruise Lines is in the business to make money and this particular subsidiary is currently more concerned about the bottom line than the overall guest experience. They're not in the business of deeply discounting fares to only have a ship with occupancy levels that are low when compared against historical data.
