Please, no flames! If you're not here to give a response, move on.

I am curious as to what areas aboard the Star are designated as smoking areas. I would like to book a cabin, however, this will aid in determining where on the ship. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

When I called NCL I was told in the casino if you are playing, cigar bar and an outdoor space. They could not tell me where. So I changed my booking on the Gem to the last week before the smoking ban comes into effect. Funny I was reading a thread today and it showed pics of all the black soot that winds up on their balcony daily from the smokestack. Black oily soot. I would rather have a smoker next to me than inhaling that black soot. No body complaining about that.

Jokes...

My doctor told me that "1 out of 3 people who start smoking will eventually die."

The other two apparently become immortal.

---

For my New Year's Resolution, I have decided to only smoke after sex.

If 2014 is anything to go by, I've quit.

---

A survey has shown that smoking is one of the leading causes of statistics.

---

Lady: Do you smoke?

Man: Yes

Lady: How many packs a day?

Man: 3 packs

Lady: How much per pack

Man: £10.00

Lady: And how long have you been smoking?

Man: 15 years

Lady: So 1 pack cost £10.00 and you have 3 packs a day which puts your spending each month at £900. In one year, it would be £10,800 correct?

Man: Correct

Lady: If in 1 year you spend £10,800 not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending at £162,000 correct?

Man: Correct

Lady: Do you know that if you hadn't smoked, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?

Man: Do you smoke?

Lady: No

Man: Where's your ******g Ferrari then?

Besides the Casino smoking is usually port side out on deck. You'll see little ashtrays on the walls, usually not far from the doors to go outside. Also, port side by the pool area, not far from the bar.

A cursory google search is all the effort I was willing to put into this thread. If OP put in the same effort, we wouldn't be here! :)

OK, I'm not a smoker, so I'm admittedly not an expert (smokers please, please correct me if I am wrong). If I were selecting a cabin for a smoking friend who could easily manage a flight of stairs, my first inclination would be to pick a cabin convenient to promenade deck (I believe one side is smoking and it is covered and also close to plenty of other stuff) .so maybe deck 6 or deck 8. Near pool deck might work, too, but somehow I think we're I a smoker, I'd like promenade better.

Thank you Starry Eyes! This is what I was looking for!

rhinomike - new policy - no smoking on balconies (I found that, I believe it was the NCL website under policies - activities?).

Just an FYI: Prior to asking here, knowing how these threads end up (hence the no flames please) I went to NCL's site - no definitive answer. I read 4 pages of cruise critic NCL - any thread that even remotely hinted of smoking. I don't know how many pages after search threads for smoking locations on the Star. I googled "designated smoking areas on NCL Star", at which point I found various "cruise boards" that I also searched through. I really did try! For 2 days - I tried (granted not 24/7, but it felt like that)

The best answers I found was listed as cigar bar (of which it seems to be non-existent on the Star), casino, when/if playing, and designated outdoor areas (no idea of where - so of no help).

Amazed me that I would receive a courteous and concise answer from a non-smoker! Thank you again Starry Eyes.

Oh yeah. The jokes...were fun!

Thank you all for your time.

As the health and well-being of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance, Norwegian Cruise Line will institute changes to its smoking policy for all sailings on or after November 1, 2014. The specific changes prohibit smoking on stateroom balconies and limit smoking in the casino to players. On Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, smoking on The Waterfront will be permitted on the starboard side, except by the outdoor dining areas.

Guests in the Garden Villas may smoke in their private garden and on their private sun decks.

Public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so in designated areas only. If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Smoking cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars and pipes is permitted in outdoor public guest spaces and open decks where designated by the ship's management based on the ship's specific characteristics and arrangement. Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is prohibited in or near venues serving food, the jogging track, outdoor sporting venues, The Haven outdoor areas and children's pool areas. On ships with The Waterfront, smoking is permitted on the starboard side excluding any food service areas. Active Casino players may smoke cigarettes in the Casino during gaming hours. Cigarette smoking is not permitted in any other indoor venue or location.

Guests are not permitted to smoke cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars or pipes in their staterooms or on their balconies. Cigar and pipe smoking in staterooms and on balconies is prohibited. Smoking inside your stateroom or on your balcony will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account. If cigarette burns on furniture, linens, towels or carpeting are detected; guests will be advised and charged for the damages.

Electronic cigarettes cannot be used in public areas where there is a No Smoking policy in force; simply because these cigarettes look so realistic and therefore other guests' perception is that we are not enforcing the No Smoking rule.

I skipped over the other responses so if this was already answered sorry. I was just on the star about 2 weeks ago. There was smoking allowed in the casino (though not many smokers) and almost the entire port side on the 7th deck outside, also their was an area by the pool and the bier garden was smoker friendly.

Hope that helps.

You're welcome. Your initial post suggests to me that you are seeking a pleasant way to comply with the smoking policy; as a nonsmoker, I'm all for that.

When I have a cabin without a balcony, I often try to be close to an open deck for fresh air and view....often that is promenade deck for me. I find it to be a nice deck and generally less crowded than pool deck.

Thankfully, another poster later confirmed that deck 7 (promenade) is still nonsmoking on one side as I thought; I would not wish to steer you wrong. Near pool deck or Bier Garden should be fine, too, if those locations work well for yo as you select your cabin.

I rather enjoyed the jokes, too...especially the Ferrari.

Have a terrific cruise.

I wonder why e-cigarettes aren't allowed in staterooms. I don't smoke but one of the people I'm travelling with does. This says that e-cigs looks too realistic, but the entire ship can't see into someone's cabin. I've let people smoke those in my house and notice no odor. Oh well, it's not my problem so I'll shut up.
