rpgbuff Posted September 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2014 What are the options for car rental in Le Havre on Sunday? My uncle wants to visit the Louvre Museum so preferably we would need a longer rental period. i.e. Early pickup, late return if possible. The train was my first option but the schedule is horrible for Sunday. Going with the cruise ship would be almost $200 PP.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2014 The last time I looked there were no rental car agencies open on Sundays (even some of the airport agencies are closed). The French do not like to work on Sundays or Holidays and we actually will sometimes plan our cruises and trips around this problem. Regarding Sundays, you are correct that its an issue with trains and also rental cars. There is a 9:16 train and you might be able to live with the later (around 5:30) return train..but otherwise you are out of luck. And even if you could get a rental car we do not normally recommend that folks drive into Paris unless they are familiar with driving in France. Even on a Sunday, driving (and especially parking) can be a hassle within the city. Either arranging for a private car/driver of the ships tour is going to be your best bet. Sorry about the cost, but consider it a lesson learned and pay particular care to where a cruise will be on Sundays and Mondays when booking future European cruises. sunsetbeachgal Posted September 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2014 Just another thought...assume the $200 per person you quoted for a ship's tour is a full day guided tour? Maybe your ship offers an option for "Paris on your own" tour? This way you get roundtrip bus service and can then go off and do the Louvre. If I remember correctly, they charged an extra $40eu for a Sunday rental and we dropped the car off at a nearby hotel later that evening.
