MrsMickey Posted September 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) What's the best way to get to Manhattan pier once I get off the Staten island ferry? Edited September 29, 2014 by MrsMickey wrong spelling
Andee Posted September 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2014 How much luggage will you have? What is your definition of "best"? Fastest, cheapest, easiest? Easiest (and possibly fastest) is a taxi. I'd guesstimate $30 and 30 minutes. Cheapest is the subway to the bus.
MrsMickey Posted September 29, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted September 29, 2014 There will be 10 of us is the subway near where you get off the ferry?
138east Posted September 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2014 The #1 train is right at South Ferry, but it would take you five avenues from the pier with the possibility of transferring to a crosstown bus. Is that something you really want to do with a group of 10 people? If so, I'm sure folks can give you detailed directions and the pros and cons. It looks like the South Ferry station is not marked as being accessible, which means you have to hump, your luggage down to the train. How much stuff are you going to have with 10 people? MrsMickey Posted September 29, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 29, 2014 We have only been to port Canaveral to get on a ship so have never been to New York and everyone of us will have luggage maybe we should do some sort of car service ? sitraveler Posted September 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2014 10 people with luggage? Only reasonable way is a van charter from Staten Island. Take the ferry when you're not on the way to the ship.
MrsMickey Posted September 29, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Do you know off hand any van charters?
njhorseman Posted September 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Try Village Car Service http://www.villagecarservice.net/ . I suspect they will have access to a large capacity van.

njhorseman Posted September 29, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2014 The new (and handicapped accessible with an elevator) South Ferry subway station was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The old station, which has no elevator, was reopened to be used while the new station is being reconstructed.
Brighton Line Posted September 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 30, 2014 The new (and handicapped accessible with an elevator) South Ferry subway station was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The old station, which has no elevator, was reopened to be used while the new station is being reconstructed. In addition the "old" or shall we say original South Ferry Station only the first 5 cars open at the station of the 10 car train. During Rush (AM/PM) hour the station and 5 cars are very crowded with narrow stairs as well with every NY'er moving at their normal pace (everyone else that is "rushing") to "catch the boat". You could take the ferry and split up into three cabs but it sure sounds like everyone else here suggested some type of van service. Mid-Island Car Service is another Staten Island car service (privately owned) you could try. Carmel Limo has a van for $188 on a bogus online booking from Eltingville Staten Island without Tolls and Tip. FWIW
