New to RCI - sail on the 13th - some questions

Recommended Posts

We've sailed before but have primarily been on NCL. And our first RCI cruise, on IOS, is approaching quickly so I have a few questions,

We are on My Time Dining - for those of you who have chosen to have your dinner as MTD did you find that most folks like to be seated with other passengers? We are so used to doing this with NCL it's become second nature and we find it a great way to meet others.

Our cruise is 12 nights - is there a lobster night?

We are not formal dressers - that is our preference. From what I've read, formal attire is an option (suggestion) - we plan on wearing what we would to a nice restaurant here in the NY area. Will we still get seating in the dining room or should we head up to one the alternatives?

For those who have been on the IOS, do you have any "DON'T GET OFF THE SHIP WITHOUT DOING..." tips?

Anything else you'd like to suggest would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :)

We got off Indy on Thursday after 12 nights to the med and with regard to formal attire you can go into any resteraunt in casual clothes on a formal night.also if you like a gamble and don't smoke you might be disappointed that they now alow smoking in the Casino.

I appreciate the responses. I like being prepared. I'm surprised about them just now allowing smoking in the casino. On NCL it's one of the few places smokers could so indulge.

Thanks again - so looking forward to this cruise...first time ever on one of the BIG  ships. Looks like we made a terrific choice.

Ciao,

Eileen

The smoking in the casino surprises me for a ship sailing from the UK, however they might have changed the policy as a result of prohibiting smoking on balconies.

If you REALLY want table mates, you should choose traditional seating, at a LARGE table. Most MTD'ers don't want company, so you may find yourself without table mates!

Formalwear is a suggestion....as long as you look nice, they'll let you in the dining room.

On RCL ships almost no one requests to be seated with others when doing MTD.

I am also not big on Formal Wear, but I think the men would be more comfortable with a sport coat (with or without a tie) and a nice dress or pants and a dress top for the women. It is highly unlikely you would not be admitted to the dining room, but most men have jackets of some kind and the women a little dressier than casual.

We sailed for the first time ever in March on Grandeur. We had MTD. We were seated at a table for two but it was only like six or seven inches from the next table. We visited with the people at the adjoining tables & really enjoyed it. No matter where we ate, we always talked with the people adjoining. Everyone was very friendly & we were never rebuffed. Enjoy your cruise.

I'm not sure there is a lobster night any longer on European cruises ?????

You are correct, I'm sorry for the misinformation. "Free" lobster is only served on cruises of 5 nights or longer based out of the US.
