jimiam Posted August 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2005 Any suggestions on what I could do while waiting for a 3:30 flight out of San Juan,PR. Waht to do with my luggage will be the main problem and RCI is only offering one post excursion where they will handle the luggage and deliver it to the airport after the excursion ends. Nantucketer Posted August 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I would be interested in information too. Our flight is a 6:19 and my husband and I are traveling with our two kids, ages 10 and 12. Suggestions please. Thanks.
giddyup Posted August 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2005 I am also interested in hearing some responses to this question. I know some people have mentioned a certain store that will hold your luggage for a while in a back room .... I'm not interested in doing this (call me paranoid, but I don't feel comfortable dropping my luggage off somewhere few hours) .... is there anything at the airport, or nearby? Or can we look forward to watching the minutes on the clock pass by, very slowly ;) Thank you!
Marie51 Posted August 18, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2005 When we had a late flight out of San Juan a couple years ago we took the tour of the Bacardi factory. I was shocked when we were brought to the airport to find our luggage just sitting out in the open in a parking garage waiting for us to pick it up. Part of the tour was drop off at the airport when the tour was finished, but I assumed the luggage would be locked up in a secure place.....not so! Next time I will just go to the airport early and take a book to read.
Pumbaamd Posted August 18, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2005 We killed the afternoon at the Mariott on the beach in San Juan. It's a brief taxi ride from the pier and to the airport. I'm not sure what the cost for the day pass was, but they stored our luggage and we had pool, including towels, and beach privileges. They had a nice restaurant and a casino. The pool bar was nice. It was the perfect place to spend your last afternoon on vacation.
erniesband Posted August 18, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 18, 2005 The place in OSJ where you can leave your luggage is Barrachina Village. If you're taking a plane that leaves after 4:00 pm, I think, the El Yunque excursion is nice. If you have an earlier plane, there's a city tour offered. The nice thing about the tours is they give you a place to ditch your luggage. The El Yunque tour is really pretty good; we did it last year. You might also find out what a taxi driver would want to give you a day tour that drops you off at the airport, or consider getting a day room at one of the hotels, and spending the day by the pool or on the beach. beachbm213 Posted August 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Pre 9/11, we were able to check the luggage at the pier for many airlines and not worry about it. Post 9/11, we gathered our luggage and walked around a bit talking to a couple of taxi drivers till we found one we felt comfortable with and negotiated a price. He took us everyplace we wanted to go and locked our luggage in his stationwagon and we would always find him close by. At first I admit I was a bit nervous and he noticed that so showed me his ID and he was a former police chief and told us that everyone knew him-THAT was true! So we enjoyed our day while waiting for our evening flight.Good luck!
Avidcruiser Posted August 19, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Last November we were on the AOS, and we had a late flight, I believe it was 5pm. We ended up going to the airport the regular way on the cruise bus, American Airlines let us check our bags in early, I think it was around 10 AM. Then we took a taxi back out to the forts in Old San Juan. We walked around Old San Juan and we had a nice lunch there as well. We took a taxi back to the airport and were back in plenty of time for the flight. Have fun, Karen
ImAFirsttimer Posted August 19, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Our flight doesn't leave until 8pm and we are doing the El Yunque excursion and the other 2 couples (they are alot older) are doing the City & Bacardi tour. This way we don't have to worry about what to do with our luggage and when we get off the ship, we don't feel like our vacation just ended. imsulin Posted August 19, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Why not book a post-tour excursion through the cruise line? You can get off the ship first, your tour bus will be waiting for you, your luggage will be kept safely on the bus, and you can enjoy a very nice guided tour!! After your tour, you will be dropped off at the airport! ("I keep repeating myself because...because...because...!")
aebalc Posted August 19, 2005 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2005 I used the shop/restaurant in old San Juan that will hold your luggage and then walked around old town. shopping the forts and the waterfront are all in walking distance of old town (assuming you don't have mobility issues). If you've never visited El Morro I highly recommend it. After that I went back to our luggage ate at that restaurant - quite good Puerto Rican food then taxi to airport. I felt very comfortable with the place that held the bags rci carnival and princess all sent their customers to use them.
lirgo87 Posted August 19, 2005 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2005 HI A friend and I took the trip around the island through the cruise line while we had to wait for our plane in late afternoon. We enjoyed that great deal. THe cruise line took care of our luggage and brought it tothe airport and we got to get off the ship rather esaily without any hassles. We got on a van I believe that took us on our tour or a small bus. IT took us through old town. We had lunch and walked around there , as well as a fort that had a great view. Im sur eif you golf you could do that as well Maybe a 9 hole or something. There was enty of time. Once we got to the airport , ew were dropped by our luggage waiting to be pulled into the inside of the airport. SO it was and seemed easier than having aflight right away! have fun
SJS Posted August 19, 2005 #13 Share Posted August 19, 2005 A day room at a hotel? I didn't know they did that, any idea what the cost is?
ssoceo Posted August 19, 2005 #14 Share Posted August 19, 2005 Once we did the bacardi tour thing too and found our luggage in a garage Once we hired our own taxi driver for about 4 hours (cheaper than some of the tours for 2 would of cost) and had him take us everywhere we wanted to go - luggage was in the trunk - we even went to a casino for an hour and then toured old san juan and went to visit with the Roberto Clemente family! texancruzer Posted August 19, 2005 #15 Share Posted August 19, 2005 We also have done the hiring a taxi thing...not in San Juan but in Mazatlan Mexico. Worked great for us.... got a great tour as driver knew everything! Took us all over and waited while we ate lunch etc... Also have done the hotel day room thing... in Ocho Rios Jamaica. Worked really well as my son was very small and while we were snorkeling steps away outside...my mom and him took a nap in the a/c room :D I think they just charged us around $40.00 for the afternoon. We will probably do the taxi thing this Nov as our flight is also 3:09.
