Have You Cruised with Anyone Famous?

Robert Young on Sitmar many years ago. A lady approached the ship's photographer and ask if he would ask RY to pose for a picture with her. RY said FO, what a disappointment. I've never thought of him the same way since.

My favorite was Anna Maria Albergetti. She peformed on stage, then went to the ladies room having forgotten to take off her microphone.

I didn't know Suzanne Pleshette and Tom Posten are a couple. I also didn't know Caroll O'Conner died. :o

Last year one of my friends was on an Alaska cruise. John Davidson was on the ship as a featured entertainer that week. She and her twelve year old son were seated with him at breakfast one morning. Her son didn't know who John Davidson was, but they were chatting away and he challenged him to a game of ping pong. John Davidson graciously accepted the challenge and played with him....my friend was very impressed with how nice and approachable he was.

Just curious! Have you been aboard a ship with anyone famous? I've heard that President Bush (21) has cruised and that Regis has cruised. I'd love to hear about famous cruisers you've seen!

On HAL, I sailed with Shirley Jones (of the Partridge Family). I ended up sitting next to her in a lounge, overlooking the back of the ship. Although I did not talk to her, I could hear her talking to the waiters and to someone she was with, and found her to be quite likable, calm & personable. Not at all snobby.

I've seen a post by the mom saying the same thing. John Davidson was on our Canada/NE cruise and I thought the same thing. He was very nice.

Like Druke we met June Allyson on a cruise to China in the late 80s on Royal Viking Line. We had drinks with her and her new husband at the time.

She was in her early 70s then and looked like she could still play the same parts. Many stories of her days in Hollywood and lack of residuals. She is still living in New England but in poor health.

BT,

We try to keep you up on things!!!

Like I have often said, I think I'm the only white woman not living in a single wide trailer home who has a subscription to the Enquirer! And, yes, I knew they were a couple!!!

(well, I consider them FAMOUS!!;) ) I cruised with the World Champion Boston Celtics aboard the Norway - the last time they won a championship, that was in 1986! Unfortunately Larry Bird bailed out at the last minute and did not go, but we had a great trip anyway! All of them were very friendly and we have great memories. Each table at dinner had one or two celtics assigned with us and they came to every dinner. My daughter has some great pictures of herself with Danny Ainge, Rick Carlisle, Dennis Johnson, KC Jones, etc. Some years later when she began dating, all of her boyfriends were very impressed with the album!!

Yes, BT, Caroll O'Conner died in 2001. We met him on a crossing with his wife and son. A rather tragic story: his son Hugh died in 1995, and after that, he'd become a tireless crusader against drugs and drug abuse. He then had a heart attack 6 years later. So sad for his wife Nancy- they were together since the early '50's- not your typical Hollywood couple. And they both loved their son. To lose both in such a short period of time...

Yeah, BT, Hugh was adopted, I believe, when they spent time in Rome- Carol O'Connor filmed many "Westerns" in Italy, and they lived there for several years part time.

Long boring story alert!

When we got off the ship, we were meeting them in Rome for dinner, and my brother and I decided to stay with Hugh at their hotel and have room service (we were 11!). So Nancy decided to "fix my mother up" with an Italian doctor, a friend of theirs. Mom said when the arrived at the restaurant, she was escorted in by Carrol, and the doctor was escorting Nancy. As they step through the door, some Americans were coming out, and Mrs. Tourist shouted out in her best Brooklynese "Oh my God, it's Archie!" (pronounced awe-cheee) The woman then turned to my mother and said "And you must be Mrs. Awe-Cheee!" So there is my mother's claim to fame- being mistaken for Mrs Carroll O'Connor. In my meaner moments I've asked her if she wasn't mistaken for Edith!

We too sailed with Regis and wife on the Galaxy a few years ago. He blended in nicely the whole week and agreed to do a little stage show the last night.

Also cruised with Johnny Winter, rock & roll fame on HAL Zuid. He wore a really wide looking 70's Mod style tux on formal night. With his bright white hair he stood out.

Count Basie was a featured entertainer on the Canberra with me on a childhood cruise. The RotterdamV had Ella Fitzgerald in the same season.

Rod Stewart is a frequent Cunard crosser. So not to be recognized, he and other celebrities enter the ship through a service entrance wearing a janitor's uniform.

cruises taken:

Canberra

Stella Oceanis

Harald Jarl

Queen Mary 1 [Long Beach]

Regal Empress

Topaz

Sea Breeze

Rembrandt

SSNorway

Pacific Princess 1

Queen Elizabeth 2

Queen Mary 2

On RSSC Mariner in March of this year, Patrick Swayze and a large extended group (relatives, kids, friends, etc) were aboard. We didn't see much of him for the first few days, but by the end of the cruise he was hanging out at the pool like everyone else. There was a rumor about that he was considering chartering the ship for some purpose.

On the same trip, the guy who played J. Peterman on Seinfield, and is currently in some commercials advertising insurance I think, was also aboard. Now I have always been a big Patrick Swayze fan, but for the benefit of you ladies, I have to tell you that the Mr. Peterman person is absolutely georgous!! Real eye candy.
