janpo Posted October 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2014 We cruised on the Getaway in September and part of that package was a free cruise on the Sky. Just booked the Sky last night for a 4 day cruise In January. Anybody have any tips or hints about the Sky? We're booked in an ocean view room. Do they have any shows on the Sky? We are also curious since we (also) have the BOGO "free" cruise. Booked the November 17th Sky cruise. I have to laugh; so far, being from PA, this "free" 4-day cruise vacation, total-total cost is now over $1,000. janpo Posted October 15, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) That's great! Hope you come back and post what your cruise was like on the Sky please! We are half of that including airfare. We're in Ohio so I know what you mean. It helps to have Southwest gift cards! Samstress Posted October 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2014 Here goes:D We (4 girls travelling together) had prepurchased the UDP so we basically ate in the specialty restaurants every nite. Twice in Le Bistro, once in Il Aldiago (sp?) and once in Cagneys. If you do end up going to Le Bistro request that Garry be your server....he is the reason we went back. Best waiter I've ever had! Be sure to say Hello from the four gals from Canada. I prefer the smaller ships to the new Mega ones. I just find it easier to get to know the boat in the small amount of time we are usually onboard. I have been on the Sky twice before when she was doing the longer 7 day cruises & was not sure what to expect because I had read that people found her 'wearing'. I certainly didn't. And she is so pretty with her 'Hawaii' hull art. There are shows every nite. The only one we attended was the take on American Idol & it was enjoyable. I've always felt that a live production is fun (even if it's not of Broadway quality). I know that the first nite is the staff intro. Then there was the Vegas Revue & the final nite is the 'goodbye' show. We wanted to go to more shows; but we just got too caught up in other 'stuff' and there just wasn't enough time to do everything. Which is why we have booked a seven day on the Dawn for next year. The Casino is the same as most Casinos at sea. Small but fun! I left my usual donation; as did the other three gals. In Freeport we just walked off the ship & took a taxi van to Lucayan Shopping and Resort area. I just wanted to see a little bit of the Island and sometimes just grabbing a cab is the easiest way to do that. We did some shopping, had lunch & then grabbed a cab back. In Nassau two of us had bought a day pass to the British Colonial Hilton Hotel. It is walking distance from the pier & I think it was around $60 each, but you get a voucher for $40 to use at the beach bar/restaurant. It is a beautiful setting & we loved it. The other two had booked the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter thru NCL & said it was worth every penny. On Great Stirrup Cay we rented a small Cabana & we were glad we did. The sun was very strong & it was nice to have some shade. But, those who wanted the sun could move their lounger to the grassy area in front. Included in the price of the Cabana is a $50 voucher for lunch that you pre-order. Lots of selection, and lots of food! The Cabanas are quite far from the tender area; but there is a tram that runs behind the Cabanas on a regular basis if you don't want to walk. My sister and I went to the Spa for facials. Loved every minute of it. I don't usually like to spend that much money but it was worth it. One of the areas that we enjoyed for a quiet drink is the Outrigger Lounge. It is at the front of the ship on the 12th deck (?) and was never crowded.. We also bought the UBP & I'm pretty sure we came out ahead. Hey, we were four girls (no husbands allowed)...let the martinis & wine flow:) Any other questions....just fire away & I will do my best to answer. Cheers Sandra
janpo Posted October 15, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted October 15, 2014 Thank you so much Sandra for all the information! It did help tremendously and thank you for taking time to do that! Samstress Posted October 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 15, 2014 I'm not sure about the Italian restaurant for lunch. We didn't eat lunch on board on any of the days. Maybe someone else has that info.. Cheers, Sandra
lilly_and_hunter Posted October 15, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 15, 2014 My husband and I took a 4 night cruise on the Sky last winter. We had a great time! I would take that same cruise again anytime! Things we really liked: -Grilled lunch on the pool deck -omelet station on the pool deck for breakfast -Live band playing each evening at different locations... They were great! -casino was fun -friendly staff -plenty of lounge chairs -small crowds -nice mix of passengers -Great Stirrup Cay We never got off the ship at Nassau or Freeport. We enjoyed our time onboard and didn't want to get off the boat. We also stayed in an ocean view. It was just fine. We had plenty of storage and room to move around. Have a great time! lilly_and_hunter Posted October 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 15, 2014 It was fine. The only other cruise I have to compare it to is an aft balcony on a one year old cruise ship. So.... Of course it's not as nice. It provided everything we needed. The bed was comfy and we slept great. No complaints from us on the ocean view or the entire ship. We truly weren't in our room much at all. We were on the same floor as the casino and we really liked that. I'm definitely a fan of the Sky!! LipstickBandit Posted December 3, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 3, 2014 Hubby and I went on our first cruise last week on the Sky and LOVED it. Had an absolute blast! There was always something to do. We watched karaoke every night and went to most of the shows in the Theater. If the Vegas show is featured on your cruise you HAVE to see it. Hands down it was the BEST show on the ship. I was very impressed with the production. I'm sure most would assume that cruise ship shows are corny, but this one was top notch. You will not regret making time for it. The food was great. We only dined at the free restaurants and that was good enough for us. They even had a nice thanksgiving dinner on Thursday night that was very well executed. Of course I/we preferred the sit down restaurants rather than the buffets. The staff was great. Everyone we met was so sweet and fun and personable. We cruised with our 4-year-old so she participated in the Kid's club every day and loved it. She even made little friends while there! I can't think of anything else to add! If you have any specific questions I would be glad to try and answer for you.

fonekween Posted December 6, 2014 #17 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Hi Patty, We will also be on the Sky for Christmas....next Christmas! I'm taking my 4 adult children before they're all married, LOL! It'll be fun sailing out of Miami on Christmas Eve, & my only disappointment is not having a sea day which I love. My children have never been on a cruise & that's an experience I hope someday they'll each have. I'll be looking forward to hearing how your Christmas cruise is this year! Samstress Posted December 6, 2014 #18 Share Posted December 6, 2014 (edited) Hi Sandra, I'll be on the Sky for Christmas. How was the weather while you were sailing? What type of room were you in? Any problems boarding or disembarking? Thanks Patty Hi Patty: For the most part our weather was great; but that was in October so it would be hard to compare with a December cruise. We were in one of the Deluxe Owners Suite (we four gals tend to spoil ourselves) so we had priority boarding and disembarking. But, I've read on here that the process is well organized. I envy your Christmas cruise. I'd love to do that someday. Happy cruising. Sandra. Edited December 6, 2014 by Samstress

janpo Posted January 20, 2015 Author #23 Share Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) I had some granola bars in my carry on when we boarded. My bag was screened and I had no problems bringing it on board. Edited January 20, 2015 by janpo
LipstickBandit Posted January 20, 2015 #24 Share Posted January 20, 2015 You can bring snacks, but make sure they are unopened and/or individually wrapped. I had the most trouble with my snacks. They wouldn't let me bring clementines and I couldn't bring my powdered coffee creamer because it was already open. I also was told that I couldn't bring some chocolate rice cakes even though they were unopened. Not sure why, though...
tfortman Posted January 20, 2015 #25 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I called the cruise line and they said no snacks could be brought on.... I also want to bring things but I am thinking of hiding them in my checked luggage.
