Oasis Of The Seas Feedback Needed

Recommended Posts

My husband and I sailing on the Oasis of the Seas in February, everything is booked and almost paid for. We aren't cancelling our cruise thats for sure and we are super excited we are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. But I'm hoping for some positive feedback for all you experienced CCers. So heres the deal we have had so many friends and read reviews that Oasis of the Seas is a huge, fun and great ship to be on, there is so much to see and do. But lately we both have been reading reviews on here some good and some bad, more bad that good. Its more oh the food is horrible, the beds are not comfortable at all. Most of the restaurants you have to pay for. We are going into this with an open mind and going to enjoy ourselves. Just hoping for some feedback. Thank You in advance.

I have only sailed on the Oasis twice, so I am not exactly an authority on the ship. However, on both cruises I found the bedding comfortable and the food satisfactory. Food is hit or miss on cruise ships. Most dishes in the buffet and some in the MDR are made to appeal to everyone, so they are bland and need to be seasoned to suit your taste. That said, if the food is supposedly so bad why do most people gain weight?

With the Oasis JUST coming out of dry dock and having her first cruise since a revamping, I think waiting for feedback would be your best bet. Having said that, I am on board the Oasis in just 3 weeks, and having been on the Allure, I can say the bedding is devine and I know I'm looking forward to sleeping in some mornings on board.

As Clarea also mentioned there are 20 dining venues on board - You must also take into account everyone's food palates are not the same; where I might think the pizza is garbage, you might love it. Everyone has their own opinions...

Your BESTEST BET - Go on vacation and enjoy yourself!!

Happy Sailing!

We travelled on the crossing in September 2014 and firstly I was not a fan of the ship. For me, it was too big and as I enjoy talking with fellow cruisers and staff when on a cruise and I hardly saw the same barman twice or the same people in 'smoker's corner'.

The bed was one of the most confortable we have had on a cruise ship, we had a central park balcony. There was more than enough choice regarding 'no fee' eateries - my favourite was the Park Cafe for lunch and Johnny Rockets for breakfast. We always found something nice in the MDR and we had mytime dining which never had queues (we always dine around 6.30pm)

Windjammer on embarcation day was a nightmare - long queues waiting to get in which didn't bother us as we had an excellent breakfast in the pre-cruise hotel.

The entertainment was very good - the ice show, comedy club, headliners. aqua show and I even enjoyed Hairspray (I believe this has now changed)

I am glad we gave Oasis a try and we will try the Quantum in May but then we will go back to the smaller ships (B2B2B2B on the Vision next November/December)

ps Wifey loved the Oasis and now wants to go on Allure!

I thought I would hate the Oasis and I loved it.

Please don't listen to all the negatives...those are simply personal experiences and many times there are extenuating circumstances involved.

You are celebrating a wonderful event, the fact that you and the one you love have been fortunate enough to be together for 30 years.

Treat yourself well, buy a restaurant package if they offer it, get a massage or two, have a breakfast or two in your room. Enjoy each other, and I guarantee the ship will be beautiful through your eyes.

My husband and I would always say as we traveled, no matter what the occasion, that we were making memories. Now that he has passed, I treasure those wonderful trips we took together, we always had a wonderful time. and we were so fortunate to have made so many memories together.

Happy sailing.

Rev

I agree with most of the other posters here ... go and have a blast! We've only sailed on the Oasis once in 2012, so I'm not an expert either, but we thought it was fabulous! We LOVED the ship! We're booked on the Allure in May of 2015 for a Mediterranean Cruise and are looking forward to another enjoyable sail. We've been on Voyager and Freedom Classes and really wanted to try this, so when we got a good deal we grabbed it! We had a JS on the hump (booked it as a JS gty) and it was lovely! We found the ship not to be too big at all, which a lot complain about. Actually found it relatively easy to navigate and it never seemed crowded! Embarkation and Debarkation went very quickly. We did the MTD and never had a wait and actually requested a waiter a few times with success. We liked the food. I think the Windjammer, or any lunch venue on any line, the first day is usually quite crowded, but we've never had a huge problem with any of it. There are many venues, as has been said, that are complimentary to eat and we liked all of them. We did eat at Chops in Central Park one night and sat outside which was so nice with the twinkling lights, etc. ... it was worth the upcharge to us and we found it amazing! Great atmosphere, food and service. We loved the entertainment. Hairspray was playing when we went, but I understand that might be changing. We were able to book all shows online before boarding except the Ice Show and we did that immediately upon boarding with no problem. All in all, my personal opinion is that it's an amazing experience and if one has the chance to do it, they should try it. So, go, enjoy and revel in your 30th Anniversary Celebration ... I think you'll like it! Happy Sailing! :)

Personally I think some people just like to complain.

I've never had a bad vacation, but I go on vacation KNOWING I will have a great time. If you go on vacation expecting to be disappointed, most likely you will.

Everyone has different ideas about what is good, and what is bad. Go enjoy yourself and make your own decision!

My wife and I enjoyed the Oasis so much in 2012 we booked it a second time in 2014, and even did the allure in 2013 and held off on doing a southern caribbean last year just to have a go at the Oasis again.

I wouldnt listen to all the negeatives on there. Yeah some of the food wasnt A++++ but its not something i would complain about. There is a ton of free options on board for food and trust me we never went hungry.

Also the beds were comft enough for me and I have a sore lower back.

I have cruised on both Oasis and Allure within the last year and I love the class of ship. I have to admit I normally dine in one of the specialty restaurants each night so cannot really comment on the main restaurant. As for the other non charge eateries, Hot Dog Stand, Park Cafe, Windjammer etc I just cannot complain about them, I think they are great.

I have to admit I am fairly easily pleased and never really complain about anything, I just go on vacation to have a damn good time and pretty much nothing will ever spoil that. If something is not great I don't waste time worrying about it, just move on :-)

The cruise is not all about the food for me, I love the entertainment, I love the concept of neighborhoods and the bigger the better for me. I really enjoy the size of the ship as I can stroll around in the afternoon or evening with a nice glass of wine and take in the atmosphere and enjoy a bit of people watching.

Look forward to your cruise and don't stress the little things, you will love the ship and have a blast, I have every time.

P.S - I sleep like a log in the beds zzzzz

Agreed! It is really about what the expectations are. If set really high, then there is a better chance of being disappointed.

Same for the food. If the expectation is that it will be like the best gourmet restaurant, there will be disappointment. If, however, the expectation is that of your favorite mass-market restaurant (which, IMO, is a more accurate assessment of the food on most cruise lines), then you will be happy.

Not to hijack this thread but I had a question on the new venues. Will we need to make reservations for any of them or are they walk up? We are going in January and dining reservations are open but none of the new venues show up.

If you are asking about Oasis, the new venues in the MDR will be operating as one restaurant with traditional / My Time seating until March. I imagine the other new venues that is will be ready by your cruise (Sabor/Izumi) will have reservations onboard if you can't book those on the web now.

Trust me you will not be disappointed.I find some people on this forum are very finicky.

Furthermore FOOD is not everything although looking around at the mountains of food on peoples plates you wouldnt know that.So much more then food.Food is very secondary for us.

I LOVED Oasis! I went last year. I slept on a Pullman bed and it was one of the most comfortable thing I have ever slept on! I thought the food was fantastic (even better when you don't have to cook for a week).

You can not please everyone. One's person opinion will be different from someone else opinion, especially when it comes to food. I loved the escargot (had it almost every night on the cruise) and there are people who hate them and think it's disgusting.

Anyway, to my point, as everyone else said, don't listen to the negative posts and make your opinion on the ship. And HAVE FUN!!!!

We love the Oasis and Allure! Always something to do. While the ship may look huge (ok... it IS huge!) it feels far smaller because of the neighborhoods (Central Park, Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Royal Promenade, etc.).

The designers of the ship did a fantastic job at making the ship feel wide open and you can always find a nice place to hide and get away. There were some nights on the Allure where there were just a few people at Vintages. How can this be possible with 5,000+ passengers?! When you have a pub, Rising Tide Bar, Champagne Bar, Dazzles, Blaze, casino, etc. etc. etc. etc. it's easy to spread everyone throughout the ship.

Do yourself a favor and EXPLORE the ship and have a great time!!
