Disconnections Posted October 26, 2014 #227 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Totally different clientele The poster I quoted was comparing the package to different cruise lines. Over the holidays and my summer Alaska cruise, my Princess cruises have shown the same demographics that Carnival displays. Another poster, Tapi, experienced the same thing on his Alaska cruise on Holland America Line. Anyway, they are similar programs offering nearly the same product. How can they not be subject to comparison? As a consumer, one should be aware of the products and price models that competitors offer.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted October 26, 2014 #228 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Ok so how does Royal Caribbean make money when theirs are unlimited. I have friends that could drink more than 15 a day even on port days. So how can Royal Caribbean make money off their packages. What does royal have to do with what Carnival charges? Answer nothing. Who said Carnivsl is not making money? If you think unlimited drinks is the answer to the issue then I give up.

Freckle53 Posted October 26, 2014 #231 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I'm glad we were able to get it for the $37.50 price last month for our first cruise. I enjoyed many strawberry daiquiris! Not nearly enough to justify $50 a day though and would have skipped it, and probably skipped any drinks other than the free coffee and lemonade all together. I wonder if it would be too complicated to have a couple different tiers of Cheers. I think I read another line does earlier in the thread. I would still consider it worthwhile to purchase it for the $37.50 with say, a limit of 10 alcoholic drinks per day and then maybe the $49.50 price for the 15 (or even unlimited!) limit and specialty coffees thrown in to upsell anyone on the fence over which tier to buy. Surely the coffees wouldn't cost them very much on their end. I rarely saw anyone at the couple of specialty coffee areas on the Pride.

Rare jimbo5544 Posted October 26, 2014 #234 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Depends on the time of year, length of cruise, if it falls on a holiday or is during a weekend. There are variables but still not comparable (Alaskan and Caribbean). Even in Carnical the average age in an Alaskan cruise is over 65. Our two Alaskan cruises there were not many people in bars after dinner, and several ambulances waiting in every port.

Disconnections Posted October 26, 2014 #236 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Totally different clientele So... a beverage package is not similar to a beverage package on another cruise that offers a similar product on the same principle at a similar price because it isn't Royal Caribbean or Norwegian? jdixon0631 Posted October 26, 2014 #237 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Sorry to step on the toes of all the Carnival cheerleaders. I to love Carnival. Going again on the freedom in January 8day. jerseyjjs Posted October 26, 2014 #238 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I just got off the Breeze for a 6-night sailing yesterday. The price I paid for the entire cruise was $293, or $48.83/day.
NathUK Posted October 26, 2014 #239 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Very annoying with or without notice. Was my assumption it would stay (or a similar value adjusted for inflation etc). We picked the Breeze for May 2015 after comparing about 6 different cruises, Incl. RCI, NCL and Carnival. One of our main criteria was cost and we were calculating using the drinks package prices, tips, various OBC's/speciality dining nights etc. I am disappointed that we booked and early saver at that so we're locked in. This increase, has made it more expensive that RCI Independence and NCL Gettaway. Think we probably would have checked out NCL not having sailed NCL before. It's not a massive amount of money but it is rather annoying having made decisions upon those published values to have it changed on you.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted October 26, 2014 #240 Share Posted October 26, 2014 So... a beverage package is not similar to a beverage package on another cruise that offers a similar product on the same principle at a similar price because it isn't Royal Caribbean or Norwegian? There are many things that have different features and costs with every cruise line. Do they have to charge the same price as their competitors? Do you think that people drink the same amounts on Celebrity as on Carnival? It's free enterprise. They can charge whatever they want and set whatever rules they want (each cruise line). Their clientele will be the final arbiter in the program success.

Chucklez Posted October 27, 2014 #247 Share Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Forgive me if someone else already said this as I am only at the end of page 4, but I need to vent already. For all you whining vacationers complaining of the price increase, PLEASE GROW THE HECK UP! Carnival is a corporation and can increase prices whenever and however they see fit. Do you go online and rant when your local gas station increases the price of gas without first telling you? Do you boycott and pledge to no longer shop at Walmart when they raise the price of a gallon of milk? ITS THE SAME DARN THING! And for those who try to count out your drinks per day you have had in the past to justify the money spent, you will more than likely drink more if you purchased CHEERS. You may only have 1 scoop of mashed potatoes at home, but at an all you can eat buffer you tend to go for the second. Yes, its hard to budget the extra money on such a short notice, but you are in no ways forced to purchase the program. If you only want to drink 3 beers a day, pay for 3 beers a day. If you dont drink at all, dont criticize those who choose to partake. I for one have never purchased the program, but was seriously considering it this trip as it is just my wife and I. Now we may either bring our own onboard or just pay as you go. Grow up people and quit acting like entitled children. If this post hurts your feelings, you are one of those children. Nope, my station has never done that. And if they drop their prices, they'll let me come back time and time again, and never tell me I have a limit on the number of gallons I can put in my vehicle. I never hit 15 beverages. I never planned to hit 15 beverages. I didn't want to hit 15 beverages. I chose in advance to purchase the program based on their very recent roll-out of new tiered pricing, and lively conversation here on Cruise Critic. Being disappointed at this new new revised modified pricing announcement is allowed. I got a great deal, and apparently right at the very last moment. Future price increases will not affect me whatsoever, but I can understand the disappointment others are feeling. .
