How do they know if you plug in my own phone to get the cheaper rate? If I don't have room to pack one I may get one of those combo shoe and phone deals maxwell smart use to use. :D

That 1.99 rate didn't last long. I saw it on one cruise only.

I was on a cruise and needed to call the kids and cell phone was $6.00 a minute and the room phone was $0.99 a minute ago we used the room phone

No....The cheapest way to call is from your cell phone. Roaming charges do apply, but it's much cheaper than the cabin phone......

Thanks for the help. It has been 11 months since last ncl cruise. Didn't use the cabin phone then but november 2012 we did and it was 1.99 back then

That was a deal! With cell phone it is usually 1.99-2.49 but the tax's they add will gag you.

Yes. Verizon is part of the "Cellular at Sea" plan. However, that is only while the ship is indeed at sea and service is through the ship's cell connection. In port, rates will vary.

re: taxes - some of the taxes you pay on your cell bill are fixed even if you make no calls in a month, some are like a sales tax.

 

If you were to break it down, it is not that bad on those at sea calls.
