Recent Casino Match Play

I read in another thread that the $5 match play for drinks might be over. Has anyone sailed recently and can answer this either way? We are leaving in a couple of weeks and were going to do the Cheers package, but with the price increase this only makes sense for us if we can do the match play on some drinks also.

What is Match play never heard of it.

Buy any drink from the list of classic cocktails and receive a $5 card good for match play at a casino table game. Use the card PLUS $5 cash and it's like playing $10 bet. Only good for even pay bets (for instance red/black, high/low, even/odd on roulette). If you win you get your $5 plus $10 cash back and they take the card. Lose and they take it all.

CCL has recently purchased/delivered more cocktail napkins that advertise the Match Play offer, so I'd personally guess they don't intend it stop it fleet-wide soon.

It was gong full-force on Carnival Breeze last week.

Agreed, it's a long standing program that's been going on for at least 4yrs (That's when I heard about it) fleet wide. I'm sure it will be there for you to use.

Last time I cruised I was lucky enough to hit on 7 of the 9 match play bets I played so I was quite happy with the virtually free drinks I had all week!

They had it on our October 6th cruise on the Triumph. I ended up with 17 of them and won on all of them at craps. Good cruise:) We had the Cheers package and we just had to remember to ask for the receipts when we got the drinks. The Cruisin is a yummy drink!

Just got off Ecstasy on 10/31 and it was NOT available despite being advertised on the monitors in the casino. Asked the pit boss about it and was told to talk to the cashiers. Asked two different cashiers (one called her manager too) and both confirmed it was not available. YMMV

Numerous threads exist on the Cheers! topic, but I'll post my personal comment/tip to this most recent one.

It was probably mentioned numerous times, but I missed it somehow. When the bartender issues you the two receipts for your Classic Cocktail beverage, one will say REPRINT on it, and one will not.

I clearly noticed that on the first beverage, but assumed (Duh, Don!) that they were issuing you a reprint as a courtesy so you could take it to the casino cage for your Match Play card.

Nope!! The reprint is the one you sign and give to the server, and the original stays with you to take to the casino. The casino (or, at least the one on Carnival Breeze) requires the original, and does not accept the reprint.

So, I hope someone can learn something from my mistake. :o

Basically it means (Using the red/black roulette example above) that you have a %47.37 of getting $5 back on every $8.75 "classic drink" you buy bringing the average cost of a "classic drink" down to $4.61 per drink :D

I like your thinking! Now, combine that with using free OBC to purchase the drinks, and you get paid to drink and gamble.

  • 2 weeks later...

Miracle had it on the 10/18 HI cruise.

Sometimes I'll use the coupons on future cruises.

Only once had a slight problem. I gave them a white-background card and that ship (evidently) only had the dark-background card. A 10second look by the dealer was all that was needed.

We were on the Nov 2nd sailing on the Sensation and they had the Match Play. Thanks for the explanation on how to use it. I had one and played roulette but didn't know exactly what I could and couldn't do. Next time I will know exactly.

Now if someone could just explain craps to me.... lol
