sheltry Posted October 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2014 I cruise on CCL once a year and have always called in OBC once a week to pre-fund my cruise spending. Whatever I didn't use, I could cash out at guest services or at the auto-teller CCL machine. I just called to load OBC and she told me that if I don't spend it, I lose it. I was trying to explain how I've done it in the past - asking her if I can still do it 'my way' but we were not on the same wave length. I understand cruise cash is non refundable. Is there any way to do it the old way? Thanks in advance!
firemanbobswife Posted October 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2014 (edited) I would just buy gift cards. Then if you don't use it all, cash out in the casino or apply it to another gift card. That's as close as you're going to get. Edited October 30, 2014 by firemanbobswife

ready2cruzagain Posted October 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 30, 2014 Back in the day Carnival would allow you to call and add obc. They did away with this option. They now want you to buy Cruise Cash which is Use it or lose it, meaning if you do not spend it all, Carnival keeps what is leftover. Some do it and cash out in the casino. You could also get a Carnival gift card, but I don't care for those either. You lose the card...you lose the money. Here is a link to the info http://www.carnivalgiftcards.com/faq.aspx IMHO, stick the money in a cookie jar.:D
soccersharon Posted October 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 30, 2014 I add money leading up to the cruise on the credit card I'm going to use for our S&S account (i.e. the balance on the card is a negative). Easy peasy! I dont like to fuss with gift cards. Sent from my phone. Typos are inevitable.

sotuffexecutive Posted October 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 30, 2014 This cruise we guessed what we would spend, purchased cruise cash for 20% less than that amount and will bring cash with to add to sign and sail when we get to port.

As a safe guard I made a spread sheet with all of the pertinent information and added columns including the date and the ship that I used it on. I even emailed it to myself. Seems to work good for me.
