miami: stores open January 1?

Will stores be open on New Year's day for last minute shopping? What about restaurants? Here in Montreal, it's a ghost town. Every thing is closed.

On January 1 most restaurants and stores will indeed be open.

The "thirteenth month" (December 26 thru the weekend after New Year's) is as much a make-or-break time for retailers as the weeks before, especially in Florida with such a reliance on tourists.

All malls will be open at least their Sunday hours on January 1, and with many workers taking a four day weekend thru the 4th restaurants will be booming that night.

It is peak season for us, yes, most everything will be open.

I have been in Miami for a few New Years including the one this past year. It's a nice feeling on New Years Day. You don't have too much traffic but as I mentioned earlier most places are open and you still have lots of holiday lights still up.
