I would always recommend taking a taxi at the port in the Caribbean. They are much cheaper than the ships trips and the drivers know the islands very well. Sometimes you have to share a mini bus with a few others, but we like the company. The taxis are reliable and always get you back to the ship in good time.

I have to agree with dronnygirl. All the Caribbean islands are organised for getting tours sorted out. We have been to quite a number of the islands and on average I think we have paid about 25USD for an island tour.

 

We very rarely d ship excursions. They are too expensive and we don't want to be in a coach with 50 other people.
