NOSaints1 Posted November 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2014 Cruise Ports Departing from: San Juan, Puerto Rico Sailing to: Tortola, B.V.I Fort De France Roseau, Dominica Basseterre, St. Kitts AOS PORTS OF CALL: San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Fort De France, Martinique; Bridgetown, Barbados; San Juan, Puerto Rico Most of the ports we went to last week on Carnival, didn't like St Maarten to much. Never been on both so which intenerary would you pick? What are the big difference between the two, I'm gonna be 37 the time we go, I'm kind of leaning more towards Celebrity, but is there enough to do during the day when your not in port? Iamthesea Posted November 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2014 (edited) They are two different ships, though both older. AOS much larger and more contemporary. Since they are both leaving from San Juan, I'd pick the AOS. It is one of my favorite RCCL ships. There will be more for you as far as entertainment on the AOS.;) PS - We have always loved St. Maarten. What did you do there last week? Champagne Cruiser Posted November 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2014 If you liked cruising Carnival then you will enjoy Royal vs Celebrity. Royal is more lively, Celebrity is more laid back.
Ozzmund Posted November 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2014 Agreed. Carnival cruisers would most likely find Royal a better fit than X.
NOSaints1 Posted November 21, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted November 21, 2014 We did an island tour, French and Dutch, also went to St Thomas, St Lucia, St Kitts, and Barbados. The food was great, service outstanding, downside stuff during the day was lacking. What is there to do during the day on each ship, so if you were to compare the two for each which has better food, entertainment, best ship for a JS or the Summit would be the Sky Suite? How's the pool space and does the Summit have a serenity area? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Iamthesea Posted November 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2014 We prefer a JS over a Sky Suite if that helps. :) The Summit has an indoor solarium, while the AOS has an outdoor solarium. Food is subjective. I've had both good and bad on both ships. There will be more entertainment on the AOS. More to do during the day, as well. Speaking of entertainment. If you go back to St. Maarten, go out to the airport beach, Maho, and watch the planes fly in over the beach. That's what we did the last time we were there. In the past, we have gone to Little Divi Bay beach and Orient beach. Never with a tour. Always on our own.
Rare Tak8 Posted November 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 21, 2014 I did Royal out of San Juan two years ago. This Christmas I will be doing The Summit. I prefer the smaller ships, so Summit seems a good choice.
