mom_to_wolfie Posted December 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2014 Hello All! I'll be cruising on Norwegian Gem in May. I'm trying to make the process as easy as possible. I'll be traveling with my mom. We will be staying in Midtown the day prior and would like suggestions on the best way to maneuver there. I'm thinking to just take a cab or hire a car. Is it obvious where to go to get through security and check in? What is everyone's experience and/or tips? Thanks in advance for any help!
travlnblueberries Posted December 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2014 Hi mom to wolf's I would suggest a cab. As soon as you get dropped off at the port the porter will take your luggage. Remember if you are keeping a carry on with you hang on to that. They will direct you to the elevator to check in. There will be so many others there you'll see how the flow of people are going. We took my mom one year and that was which a wheel chair, and everything went smoothly. We usually sail out of New York in June. Have a great time and enjoy the time with your mom.:)
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2014 We've done this many times and I would recommend a taxi cab. Keith
sail7seas Posted December 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 7, 2014 We always had the hotel doormen hail us a taxi.
marco Posted December 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) If you're staying midtown, a cab will be less $$$$$ then a car service and just as convenient. And you should have NO problem having the hotel doorman hailing a cab right in front of the hotel for youl Edited December 7, 2014 by marco
Rare FlyerTalker Posted December 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 7, 2014 Depending on your price/style preferences, any of these would work: taxi hailed by your hotel doorman, car service arranged by voice or Uber through your smartphone. From midtown to the Hudson river piers is a quick hop - much closer and easier than your trek from any airport to midtown.
