Hi everyone. Cruising out of Miami February 8th, still trying to find affordable air fare :( Ship docks in POM at 8 am, do you think I am ok with a 11 AM flight, providing we take our own luggage off the ship?

Maybe but I would not book it.

You may make it but you might not.

The good news is there are three ships in port that day.

However, there is no guarantee you will arrive on time or be cleared on time and you never know if you are one of the unlucky ones who customs decided to stop and check your luggage. Does any of this happen? Yes.

And then there is the airport. February is a busy time at the airport.

Please also remember that many people want to self disembark so it's not like you are the only person who has that thought.

I don't like stress and I don't like worrying while cruising about this.

So, if it was me, I wouldn't do it.

For an 11:00 AM flight you need to be at MIA by 9:30 - and earlier is better if you have ever seen the TSA line at MIA!

To be at MIA by 9:30 you need to be off the ship, with bags, clear of customs/immigration, and laoding into a cab by 9:00.

It can be done, but there is some risk. I would book a flight leaving closer to noon or later. Do you want to spend your cruise worried about making the flight home?

Why oh why are there so many threads about " will I make the flight"?

When the cruise line tells you the the earliest is 12:30, they are telling you

because they have had experiences with thousands of cruisers.

I can appreciate that some flights are cheaper, but that is because most people cannot make that flight.

Lots here aren't familiar with all the ports and airports. Too, many cruisers DO make earlier flights. Someone who isn't afraid of a challenge and doesn't mind some stress will book this flight. And in reality the majority will make it. Most experienced travelers will avoid any unnecessary stress.
