KPfromCT Posted December 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2014 I've never cruised out of Port Canaveral, however, we've had luck with 5L boxes in our checked luggage at both the port of Baltimore and port of Miami, TWICE:D:D I usually just bury it between my clothes and it always seems to make it to the cabin. :) Good Luck!!!!:D:D

Good Luck!!!! Thanks, but I trump you...see my cruise history? Yep, every single one out of Manhattan...5 L boxes! ;);) And before I get flamed, we spend TONS of $ on drinks at the bar and DH leaves TONS of $ in the casino each cruise! It's just nice to have something in the cabin. I bring Sprite as allowed carry on and make wine spritzers. They charge me same price for a spritzer which is 1/3 soda, 1/3 ice and 1/3 wine as a regular glass of wine which is why I "do it my way." Just don't have any idea if PC is strict...

cruisinwithsusan Posted December 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2014 You carried on a 5L box of wine??? From what port? Details please!!! here's thier policy: Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board. However, at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring on board one bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, per person, only in their carry-on luggage. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the main dining room; $14 corkage fee per bottle in the steakhouse. Guests may bring a small quantity (package of 12 per person) of non-alcoholic beverages. So I guess the box is the equivilant for 3 guests. I don't think you can do that because I have read other threads with questions such as this, like instead of bringing 2 750ml bottles/person, can you bring 1 1500 L bottle, or whatever the equivilent of 2x750ml is. I am not good with metric! :o And the answer was always NO. I am just wondering if anyone has been successful getting booze on in their checked luggage or do they get a naughty note at PC. Can'tWait2SetSail Posted December 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) I did not bring on boxed wine, but when we sailed out of Pt Canaveral they checked everything in our carryons. They even shook every single water bottle. Edited December 16, 2014 by Can'tWait2SetSail

mommiemudd Posted December 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2014 Boxed wine in checked luggage made it to our cabin without any trouble about 5 times so far.....Ft Lauderdale is the only port mine has gotten confiscated.
Crusin Karen Posted December 16, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted December 16, 2014 I did not bring on boxed wine' date=' but when we sailed out of Pt Canaveral they checked everything in our carryons. They even shook every single water bottle.[/quote']I would put it in CHECKED bag. Do you take it out of the box itself? No, I always put a sheet of bubble wrap around the box, then wrapped in layers of plastic bags. Just to insure no breakage., and if it DID break, no leakage. I have heard of people who take it out of the box and just pack the "bladders" tho. Even heard of those who collapse the box, pack, then open it back up and insert the bladder back in! We have never sailed from PC, so just wondered how strict they are...Manhattan tends to look the other way. ;)
spiritweevil Posted December 16, 2014 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2014 CK - I would love to know if you make it thru. We are going on Liberty the month after you and I would like to get on some additional wine if we can. Please keep us posted.
Rare crewsweeper Posted December 16, 2014 #15 Share Posted December 16, 2014 IF, you decide to try to get a 5L boxed wine on board, yes your best bet is via checked luggage and keeping it in the box, unopened! And well protected from breakage/or spills on your clothing. Here's why. 1) If you attempt to bring it via carry one it will be confiscated. (Same may apply to a single 1.5ml bottle, best to bring 2 750mls. You can bring smaller boxed wine via your carry on though.) As long as you're walking through security as a single party, they'll let a person bring on more than a single 750ml bottle/box. Just point out who you're traveling with, if asked. 2) If you pack the unopened box in your checked luggage and they find it when scanning the checked luggage, you'll get a call to the "naughty room", made to open the luggage and take out the box, but they'll hold it for you until your last night on the cruise or when they deliver any liquor you may buy on board. Now that doesn't help you drink your wine during your cruise, but at least you won't lose your wine. If you take the bladder out of the box or if you had a pre-cruise sip or two and then reclosed the box and it is discovered, they will most likely toss it. You'll lose all the way around. As long as you are aware of these risks, and still wish to try to bring a large boxed wine on board, go ahead and give it a shot. Just don't come back here kicking and screaming and dissing Carnival for "ruining your cruise" because they wouldn't let you bring your wine on board. Cruising4 Posted December 16, 2014 #16 Share Posted December 16, 2014 How do you know if you luggage was sent to the naughty room and not just getting delivered late? Anyone every put a "decoy" in the luggage - a bottle of something cheap to be handed in at the naughty room whilst the good stuff is safely hidden below? spiritweevil Posted February 2, 2015 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2015 Cruisin Karen are you back? Wondering how you did with your boxed wine at Port Canaveral? We are leaving this Sunday and are going to try it.
Rena921 Posted February 2, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 2, 2015 SMH at " the naughty room". You won't get called to open your luggage if you do not lock your bags. As long as they are able to search your bag without needing a key to unlock it, they will remove the contriband and leave a note in your suitcase before delivering it to your stateroom. (Kind of like the TSA notes when they search your bag). If the alcohol is in the original in opened container, they will keep it until the end of the cruise for you to come pick up. That's where irons, steamers, fans, etc go to spend their vacay too ;). We use zip ties in our luggage, so if for some reason they need to check someting in my bag, they can easily cut the tie. Never had an issue at all.

Glad you had a great cruise! No, we tried 2 different places and since it was in our friend's car and they were taxiing us around, I felt kind of funny asking them to try a 3rd place. If I was on my own, I would have! ;)
onegroundcafe Posted February 2, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 2, 2015 When we cruised out of Port Canaveral in September we had a bottle of wine each in our two checked bags, they were buried in our clothing, when the luggage got to our room we got a note saying we could pick up our wine on debarkation day at the Alchemy Bar....in the past you got in the last night of the cruise but not so this time. You should have seen the Alchemy Bar on debarkation morning, looked like a good time for sure. I think it depends on the port.
